I know what you mean about trying to go back and watch local news after the team you watched for years gets dismantled --;! The same thing happened here with KSTP, the station I watched for several years as a kid. I used to watch KSTP religiously and their then #1 anchor team of Cyndy Brucato, Stan Turner, Dennis Feltgen, and Bob Bruce. Things got ugly in the mid-80s when Q ratings and Hubbard, owner of KSTP, decided to tweak the team. Since then, KSTP has been rotating their main anchors in and out every 3-4 years X( except for the meteorologist, Dave Dahl who replaced Feltgen after Feltgen had a nightmare contract re-negotiation that ended him leaving the station, and the main sports anchor, Joe Schmidt who replaced Bob Bruce whose exact reasons for leaving I can't remember at the moment O~O! The other 2 main news stations, KARE-11 and WCCO, kept their teams relatively stable while KSTP went through at least 6 or more different main anchors. WCCO did cause a bit of a ruckus when they pressured their veteran anchor, Dave Moore, to retire in favor of Don Shelby, the main anchor there now. More recently, WCCO was under fire again for replacing another main anchor, Amelia Santinello, with another anchor while Santinello was away on maternity leave >=(! When she came back, her seat was gone and her job reduced! Santinello now only anchors the 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. news, opposite her husband, Frank Vascellero, who replaced Paul Magers at KARE-11 o-O! It's husband against wife XD!
I barely remember Ron Magers when he was here at KSTP in the late '70s. It was weird when his younger brother Paul came into town just when Ron left for Chicago. Hey, were you watching the local news when Paul Douglas, ex-head meteorologist at KARE-11, tried breaking into the Chicago market? Douglas came 'skimpering' back here to WCCO to become their new head meteorologist after Rebecca Kolls left to do the a Martha Stewart type of gardening show. Before Douglas left for Chicago though, Paul Magers, who had great on-air chemistry with Douglas, said he would return, and he did ;b! From what we were able to gleem from the Chicago news market here about Douglas' stint there was that his rooftop weather forecasts just didn't click with viewers there as it did here =/. Douglas was the one who first introduced backyard weather forecasting at KARE-11. Now KARE-11 is still the only station here whose meteorologist goes out to the backyard of the station to do the weather forecast, no matter how bad the weather is out there! Douglas no longer goes outside for WCCO XP!
Yeah, yeah, I can keep yakking on and on about this ;b! One last thing I wanted to add was that we also have a Robyne Robinson here too! She's the main anchor for KMSP! Okay, I'll stop yakking here --;!
