Farley dreams.
It’s not like he can do anything else, what with the thing’s voice in his brain, another damn thing telling him what to do without even stopping to ask permission.
He dreams of the abandoned ballroom, looking as dark as the rest of the building.
He dreams of an invisible target he knows he’ll never hit, but tries to anyway.
He dreams of the overpowering darkness, stealing every last vestige of courage he might have had and leaving him more defenseless than he ever was around Shiwan.
He dreams of a false doorway to freedom, the sudden drop, and then the horrible PAIN-
Until one day, the pain isn’t the memory of falling through glass and hitting the wooden floor, but something akin to the time he accidentally touched Reinhardt’s electrostatic generator, only several times worse-
And he realizes he’s himself again for the first time in what he can’t believe was only a month.
Then the hell he’d expected to rain down on the Hotel Monolith finally finds him, and he does the one thing he should have done in the first place - run.
So he runs, and keeps running, trying to hide from the darkness that held him for that eternity of a month, until the damned hunger comes - the mysterious need that he doesn’t want to remember, that he shouldn’t remember-
But he does.
Then there are fangs, the flesh of something that might not necessarily be human, the taste in his mouth that no amount of hyperbole can truly describe, and no more thoughts of Was I dying Oh God what’s happening to me What do I DO.
For now.
For now, he’ll feed.
Then he’ll dream. Dream of the day he can take the darkness back, and the Shadows are no more…
