Loony Left

A comment that I keep hearing from the Liberal Left concerning the current war in Iraq has to do with the 'safeness' of the world today and how the world is 'less' safe because of the war than it was before. I don't get this argument, really. Don't get me wrong, I understand what they are saying and why they are saying it, I don't understand how they can say it with a straight face or with any sincerity, which they obvious have.

The world is a dangerous place. It always has been and it always will be, and it has been getting more and more dangerous for decades. This hasn't changed, nor will it.

The statement of the left makes the implication that had we NOT invaded Afganistan and/or Iraq, that N. Korea would not be developing nukes. That the Sudan would have laid down their guns and started playing nice with each other. That Lybia would have come to the conclusion that developing nukes is a bad idea on their own. And that had we not invaded Iraq and Afganistan that those countries as well would have ceased their hostile actions toward their own people. Also implied is that the terrorists that are 'flooding' Iraq (by Kerry's characterisation) would not come over here, and would be pleasant college students happily studying the koran. The statement of the left imlies that had we not invaded then all this would not have happened. Which I don't get.

To me it is obvious that had we not invaded Iraq and Afganistan that not only would be faced with the above listed atrocities, and others that I did not list, but we would also have Sadam and the Taliban in place funding and training terrorists to continue their actions that they revealed on 9-11. As those are the only things that we can, in hindsight, confirm that they were doing. Although all the accepted intelligence from both sides of the Atlantic, accepted by not only the adminstration, but the congress (and Sen Kerry), all that intel said that there was much more going on than that. (As if that wasn't good enough to invade, regardless of what the President had been led to believe).

The left would have us believe that if we elect Kerry that the world will now start playing nice. That all these problems will go away. That Kerry will somehow be able to convience Germany, France and Russia to send their troops into Iraq (as UN peacekeepers) and that the terrorist will stop killing Iraqis. That they will fight a war that even Kerry doesn't have the stomach to fight.

So to say the world is less safe than it was before the war is really not very accurate. Of course it is less safe, but not because of the war, but because the world is not a safe place. And if the war hadn't happened it would still not be a safe place, and more than likely it would be less safe here on these shores than overseas.

I just don't get it.
