So I'm listening to the song they wrote oh so many years ago to feed the starving in Africa. A line is the song goes "there won't be snow in Africa this christmas." or something very similar. HELLO its Africa, it isn't winter there in December. Of course they won't have snow on christmas, not unless the earth has been spun on its axis and the end is upon us. And even in winter, the snow doesn't get to the people that are the subject of the song. Besides the fact that most of them aren't even christians and don't care about our holiday and what it represents.
I have always had a funny feeling about this song as it seemed so fake. I am sure that they earned lots of money to feed the starving in Africa that year and the years since then, from that song. But there are still millions of people starving in Africa today. It didn't seem to do that much. The problem isn't one that you can throw lots of money at and hope that it goes away. I really do feel bad that there are so many who are suffering in the world, not just Africa, but I don't see how throwing tons of money at the problem will fix it. It hasn't so far. I would rather see efforts go into stoping the problem that is CAUSING the starving. Stop the wars, eliminate the warlords. Help the people fix their problems. If it can be done. But most people aren't keen on "nation building".
I like the song anyway.
