Ugh.

So much for my nifty cool shrimp tank. They're a lot less nifty when they're dead. I think the water got a bit cold for them last night, but, still, they're supposed to be very hardy-the species I got originated in Japan, and they're used to more temperature variation. Fuckit, inverts seem to be much more trouble than they're worth in fresh

Damn I was also thinking about starting a small shrimp tank. My regrets about your shrimp.

If you're going to, I suggest one of the ones that has a filter/heater combo, and then introducing them slowly. The two I had in the big tank were doing fine, when I moved them to the unheated tank on their own with their new friends they had the problem.

You could also go with another species, Bamboo or Red Cherry.

I know that copper is a HUGE problem with invertebrates in marine tanks; I'm assuming the same thing is true about FW species, but I don't know.

Oh, it's the same with fresh. It was either trace copper in the water or it was the temp drop. I'm leaning towards trace copper myself, as the amanos are supposed to be good down to 68 or so and the tank was cool, not cold.
