Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

I got 'that' call today from school. 'That' first phone call from the school nurse. Emma got her finger caught in a door at school and was in the nurses office. Deep breath. The nurse felt that Emma needed to go have it looked at. Ok, I say, it will take me about 30 minutes to get there and pick her up. -pause- Nurse says that she really should be seen now so they will just call for an ambulance and would I like her to go to Clinton or Marlboro hospital. Dead silence on my end - they are going to send my baby to a hospital in an ambulance WITHOUT me or Q!!! Um, I tell her, Clinton since I have no idea where Marlboro hospital is. Nurse assures me 'someone' will be going with her.

I was good and I think I only hit 90 once or twice while driving to the hospital. I did manage to call Q and have him go as well so that one of us would be there ASAP. He beat me by 2 minutes.

Emma's left index finger now has a broken tip and 4 stitches. She was SOOOO good throughout the entire thing. I sent Q back to work and to get flowers for Emma when we got home. Good thing to since all the ick that went on would have probably caused him to make his own ick - the boy does not do well around blood.

I did manage to hold it all together and may just collapse later, after Emma is in bed. We were at the ER for 7.5 hours. There were all sorts of things that they had to wait for before they could start cleaning her wound and then after that we had to wait for the conscious sedation to wear off before they would release her. We need to call the Umass hand clinic for a follow-up and stitch removal but that will wait until Monday.

Next step is to break it to Emma that she can not play hockey with a broken finger. Hopefully letting her know that she can start the next session in January will be enough.
