SAVE ROE
One thing that is on my mind a lot is abortion, the right to and practice of and those little bastards that picket outside the clinics and harrass the women, girls and the men and women who escort those women into and out of the clinic.
A few nights ago there was a show on called Frontline and the topic was "The Last Abortion Clinic", the one in Mississippi. One of the last interviews was that of a young blonde "Southern Belle" type with "Pro-Life Mississippi" who was discussing her life's ambition - to overturn Roe and eliminate abortion in her lifetime. And at first I was angry but then I began to realize how naive she actually is.
Overturning Roe will not end abortion. Safe abortion, yes. But abortion in general, not a fucking chance. Women will die, become sterile, develop infections all by a dipshit who doesn't know what he or she is doing because you know that if Roe is overturned, they won't be able to be trained in safely providing abortion.
These people don't seem to understand that and that is why they are wasting so much time and money on abortion. Abortion is not the problem. Abortion is the symptom. The problem is unwanted pregnancy. The problem is a sick society that lets their women be mistreated by their families (and the governtment and neighborhoods and the media) for wanting a healthy and satisfying sex life; for wanting to make their own choices; being turned away from the drug store for wanting to prevent pregnancy and doesnt give them adequate sexuality and prevention education. This proves that all they are out for is control over others.
It will let the pharmacist call her a baby killer for wanting a teeny Pill, but will have no qualms about dispensing painkillers or other highly addictive and oft-abused "harmless" drugs. They have no problem filling a man's prescription for Viagra, even though everyone knows that it can cause heart problems and death. Maybe that patient is using the Viagra so he can fuck his misstress or molest children. But it's oh-so-immoral for a woman tohave sex with out the fear of pregnancy. These people are so ass-backwards its insulting.
And I am so sick of these supposedly prochoice politicians and their wanting abortion to be rare. I could give a fuck if abortion is rare. Rarity isn't the point. Safety is. We want women to be safe and healthy and YES sometimes, that includes having an abortion and her reasons for doing so are not for public discussion. Let it go and lets work together to eliminate the real problem - unwanted pregnancy.
