The kiss was neither passionate, nor awe inspiring, it was not even filled with love. It was curious, hesitant, yet almost hopeful. It was Anakin's first real kiss and it was with none other than his friend Ferus.

Some times, it was just better not to think about one’s actions, this moment was one of them. To think would leave room for doubt, allowing fear and confusion to set in.

This was, as Ferus said, an experiment nothing more, nothing less. Anakin had to agree that this was most certainly doomed for failure. It did not hurt to try.

Clumsy fingers slipped through ruffled hair. A failed attempt at furthering their kiss led to a small gasp, followed by the snickering that marked the end to their impromptu moment.

Ferus said it was nothing like he had imagined. Certainly not, heated, nor nearly as passionate as kisses seen in the holo-vids they enjoyed watching when the rare opportunity arose. In fact, it was almost comical in its awkwardness.

Anakin was just relieved that it did not leave him feeling unclean or bruised as he had felt in the past. Then again, Ferus was not a predator, and Anakin, for once, was not prey.

"Should we try it again?" Ferus asked casually and with such ease, that the Tatooine native could not help but smile boyishly in reply. Ferus had a way of disarming even the most awkward moments. Anakin could not have picked a better partner to experiment with if he tried.

"Alright but this time try not to laugh," Anakin said with equal seriousness. Ferus nodded his expression and emotions sincere.

This time the kiss shared was neither awkward, nor fumbling. It was still curious, a little hesitant, yet almost pleasant.

It was the first time Anakin felt no fear, no disgust, not even shame. To his credit, Ferus though inexperienced was gentle, and kind. It was a first for Anakin whose only knowledge of such intimacies was through violence.

They both knew nothing would come of it. It was an unspoken understanding, one neither needed to express with words. Anakin had nothing to lose, and Ferus had nothing to gain.

His hands slipped to the small of Ferus's back, drawing the padawan closer to him, allowing their kiss to deepen.

This time there were no gasps of shock, no snickering or giggling of amusement.

It was not healing, passion, rebellion or even curiosity that brought Anakin to this point. It was about trust. Ferus was the first person in his life that Anakin trusted enough to be completely vulnerable with.

It was for this reason that his shaking fingers began to explore Ferus's body with care. Anakin was ready to learn how to let go and so he did in the arms of a friend.
