(How Will You) Shape Its Stories?

Twenty Mixes. That's how many Steampunk Nation-themed fanmixes I've posted here. That's a scary-ass number! I've invested a huge amount of time an energy into these soundtracks and I don't regret a minute of it. They were fun as hell.

So for the big two-oh, I thought I'd do something a little bit different. Like a huge three-part mix to try and cover all the sides of the war that Steampunk Nation revolves around. So, without further ado or tear-jerking introduction, I present to you:

PART I

"The End Is Here" -- Alter Bridge
Endless days:
we search for what we hold inside,
so hard to find.
Luck turns;
will the fallen ever reach within
and rise again?

For the rest of my life
I will find the answers
that were always here;
I will find the meaning this time,
I will fight the end
'till the end is here.

Wasted time:
with words that seem to break our will,
they bind us still.
Without a care,
they tarnish what we hold so dear,
what was once so clear.

-   -   -

"Shoot It Out" -- 10 Years
Load it, cock it, pull it, refuse to be ignored;
I'm not gonna fight your war.
All the distractions kill the compassion:
suddenly, fame has lost its attraction.

-   -   -

"Duck And Run [Live]" -- Three Doors Down
To this world I'm unimportant,
just because I have nothing to give.
So you call this your free country;
tell me why it cost so much to live.
Tell me why!

This world can turn me down,
but I won’t turn away, oh no,
I won’t turn around

All my work and endless measures
never seem to get me very far:
walk a mile just to move an inch,
now even though I'm trying so damn hard.
I'm trying so hard!

This world can turn me down
but I won’t turn away,
and I won’t duck and run,
'cause I'm not built that way.
When everything is gone,
there is nothing there to fear;
this world cannot bring me down,
no, 'cause I'm already here.

-   -   -

"Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain For My Sham Friends" -- Fall Out Boy
Strike us like matches,
'cause everyone deserves the flames.
We only do it for the scars and stories,
not the fame.
At least everyone is trying,
everyone is shining,
everyone deserves the flames
but it's such a shame,
such a shame.

The sounds of this small town make my ears hurt
(make my ears hurt);
oh yeah, you caught me,
but I caught you one worse.
They say, "You want a war? You've got a war,"
but who are you fighting for?
The tides out, the ship's run aground;
we drown traitors in shallow water.

-   -   -

"Believe" -- The Bravery
Something's always coming,
you can hear it in the ground:
it swells into the air
with the rising, rising sound,
and never comes but shakes the boards and rattles all the doors.
What are we waiting for?
What are we waiting for?

So give me something to believe,
'cause I am living just to breathe.
And I need something more
to keep on breathing for,
so give me something to believe.

-   -   -

"Remember The Name" -- Fort Minor
This is ten percent luck,
twenty percent skill,
fifteen percent concentrated power of will,
five percent pleasure,
fifty percent pain,
and a hundred percent reason to remember the name!

-   -   -

"Only The Weak" -- Monty Are I
Start the burning, it's a fight that they find;
they didn't see this beginning.
My blistered hands
show with persistence and time,
this struggle's worth every minute.
And it's the heartless versus soul, and one will stand:

But it's only the weak,
they wait for glory to appear,
and they fail.
It's the victory they seek;
they lack the passion to prevail,
but not us, only the weak.

-   -   -

"From The Ritz To The Rubble" -- Arctic Monkeys
Last night these two bouncers-
  yeah, one of em's alright,
the other one's the scary one:
his way or no way, totalitarian,
he's got no time for you
looking or breathing
how he doesn't want you to,
so step out the queue.
He makes examples of you
and there's nowt you can say.

Behind, they go through to the bit where you pay
and you realize then that it's finally the time
to walk back past ten thousand eyes in the line.
And you can swap jumpers and make another move;
instilled in your brain you've got something to prove
to all the smirking faces and the boys in black:
why can't they be pleasant?
Why can't they have a laugh?

He's got his hand in your chest,
he wants to give you a duff.
Well, secretly, I think they want it all to kick off.
They want arms flying everywhere and
bottles as well, it's just
something to talk about
  a story to tell you.

PART II

"Prayer Of The Refugee" -- Rise Against
Warm yourself by the fire, son,
and the morning will come soon.
I’ll tell you stories of a better time,
in a place that we once knew.

Before we packed our bags
and left all this behind us in the dust,
we had a place that we could call home,
and a life no one could touch.

Don’t hold me up now;
I can stand my own ground.
I don’t need your help now:
you will let me down, down, down!

[...]

We are the angry and the desperate,
the hungry and the cold;
we are the ones who kept quiet
and always did what we were told.

But we’ve been sweating while you slept so calm
in the safety of your home;
we’ve been pulling out the nails that hold up
everything you’ve known.

-   -   -

"Same Blood" -- The Academy Is...
With all the people we need to love and hate,
everybody makes the same mistakes.
Divided by these walls,
together we are lost.

We are the same blood,
all of us, we are, we are:
while half of us were lost,
the other half forgot.

We are the same blood,
we are the same blood,
we are the same.

-   -   -

"(Coffee's For Closers)" -- Fall Out Boy
I can't explain a thing;
I want everything :
to change and stay the same, oh time
doesn't care about anyone or anything.
Come together,
come apart,
only get lonely when you read the charts.

[...]

I will never believe in anything again.
I will never believe in anything again.
Though change will come,
oh, change will come,
I will never believe in anything again.

-   -   -

"Troubled Land" -- John Mellencamp
Well there's a pain in my side
but I keep traveling on
(bring peace to this troubled land).
It's dark out here,
I can't read those signs
(bring peace to the troubled land).
Hurricane on the horizon,
judgment getting closer all the time:
I can't find tomorrow,
bring peace to this troubled land.

-   -   -

"It's Not The End Of The World But I Can See It From Here" -- Lostprophets
My soldiers march tonight
in the city of your dreams;
this beautiful army is tearing at your seams.
Down on your knees, cure this disease;
I'll take it all, everything I see.
Oh, can't your hear this symphony?

Behind these walls,
you watch them fall
as our union crumbles into hell.
It's not the end of the world now, baby,
so come on, dry those tears:
it's not the end of the world now, darling,
but I can see it from here.

-   -   -

"Never Will I Break" -- 3 Doors Down
Lay me down,
wash this blood off my hands for me
while I cry out:
don't let me die before I go to sleep.

And I can't keep going,
but I cannot start again.

This road I walk is paved with broken promises I've made:
at least a million times I've fallen,
but never will I break.

-   -   -

"What's Left Of The Flag" -- Flogging Molly
From the east out to the western shore,
where many men and many more will fall;
but no angel flies with me tonight,
though freedom reigns on all.
And curse the names for which
we slaved our days,
so every men chose Kingdom Come.

But sure as night turns day,
it's the passion play.
Oh my god,
what have they done?
With madman's rage,
well they dug our graves,
but the dead rise again, you fools.

Walk away, me boys,
walk away, me boys,
and by morning we'll be free:
wipe that golden tear
from your mother dear,
and raise what's left
of the flag for me.

-   -   -

"Seven Nation Army" -- The White Stripes
I'm gonna fight 'em off:
  a seven nation army couldn't hold me back.
They're gonna rip it off:
taking their time right behind my back.

-   -   -

"Stronger" -- Children 18:3
There's a trick to understanding
what it is you couldn't see,
and a map without a compass
Is impossible to read.

Lights out, a pillowcase to cry on,
a good friend to rely on for a prayer.
Oh please, be careful, my brother,
the fighting will never be fair.

Oh, it can only make me stronger;
cast the weight away.
Oh, stronger and stronger;
sail away, away.

PART III

"Still Waiting" -- Sum 41
So am I still waiting
for this world to stop hating?
Can't find a good reason,
can't find hope to believe in.

Drop dead,
  a bullet to my head;
your words are like a gun in hand.
You can't change the state of the nation:
we just need some motivation.

-   -   -

"Riot" -- Three Days Grace
If you feel so empty,
so used up, so let down,
if you feel so angry,
so ripped off, so stepped on,
you're not the only one
refusing to back down:
you're not the only one,
so get up.

Let's start a riot, a riot,
let's start a riot!
Let's start a riot, a riot,
let's start a riot!

If you feel so filthy,
so dirty, so fucked up,
if you feel so walked on,
so painful, so pissed off,
you're not the only one
refusing to go down:
you're not the only one,
so get up.

-   -   -

"Seize The Day" -- Avenged Sevenfold
Seize the day
or die regretting the time you lost.
It's empty and cold without you here,
too many people to ache over.

I see my vision burn,
I feel my memories fade with time,
but I'm too young to worry:
these streets we travel on
will undergo our same lost past.

-   -   -

"Revolution" -- 'Across The Universe' Cast
You say you want a revolution,
well, you know
we'd all want to change the world.
You tell me that it's evolution,
well, you know
we'd all want to change the world.
But when you talk about destruction,
don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be alright?

-   -   -

"In The Craters On The Moon" -- The Mountain Goats
Empty room with a light bulb,
where the phone starts to ring;
everybody gets nervous,
nobody says anything.

The next day someone's initials
show up on the door.
I think I'm gonna crack;
can't live like this anymore.

Ugly things in the darkness,
Worse things in store
in the declining years
of the long war.

-   -   -

"My World" -- 3 Doors Down
There is always someone to blame
for the things you do yourself;
you think that everything that's going wrong
is because of someone else.

And your trapped inside this world you made yourself.
That's not the world I live in,
this is not the life for me,
'cause my world's bigger than your problems
and it's bigger than me.

-   -   -

"You Might Die Trying" -- Dave Matthews Band
To change the world,
start with one step.
However small,
the first step is hardest of all.

Once you get your gate,
you will walk in tall.
You said you never did,
'cause you might die trying,
'cause you might die trying.
'cause you-

If you close your eyes
'cause the house is on fire
and think you couldn't move
until the fire dies-
the things you never did,
oh, 'cause you might die trying,
'cause you might die trying.
You'd be as good as dead,
'cause you might die trying,
'cause you might die trying.

-   -   -

"Stand My Ground" -- Within Temptation
Stand my ground, I won't give in:
no more denying, I've got to face it.
Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside;
if I don't make it, someone else will:
stand my ground.

It's all around,
getting stronger, coming closer,
into my world.
I can feel
that it's time for me to face it;
can I take it?

Though this might just be the ending
of the life I held so dear,
but I won't run;
there's no turning back from here.

-   -   -

"The Resistance" -- Anberlin
You wanna watch us break?
Be the first to take us down.
But your teeth are worn
and there’s no stopping us now.
You've got to be mental;
your speeches are maligned.
Take down this Molotov of word,
penned with you in mind:

Speak,
speak for yourself,
you paper tigers.
You'll crash where you stand;
you've got a riot on your hands.
Speak,
speak for yourself,
you paper tigers.
Too late to make demands
when you've got a riot on your hands.

Silent alarms are ringing,
sounds of revolt draw near,
  a new united front
that you will come to fear.
We will hold together
to become the change,
voice for the voiceless
with every common man engaged.
