Something the fans have taught you
Yabu: That I am not alone. For example, before a concert when I am alone in my room, I will wonder, am I really able to stand on the stage as an idol tomorrow? and I get worried (laugh). But when I am actually standing on the stage at the venue, the fans welcome me. During such times, I feel relieved and think - I am not alone! The fans do look at me and even if I change my hairstyle, they will notice immediately. If I am not working, I don’t care about my appearance and if you see me somewhere, I think I will probably be looking horrid (laugh). So I think that it is also the fans who are helping to maintain who I am now (laugh).
Hikaru: I think I am someone who can progress and grow when I am being praised. Because the fans always praise me, I have confidence in myself and gain a lot of power from that. When they tell me I was really cool on stage, I am happy after all. During my junior days and also during JUMP debut days, the fans tell me in detail about how they feel about each and every corner of the concert, and also about the songs and lyrics and I think that the fans do look at everything even more than us.
Something the members have taught you, something you have taught the members
Yabu: When we watch the news in the dressing room, the members do ask me questions on current affairs. And then I will explain to them. Especially the most useless out of the useless- Yaotome-san. I conscientiously explain it to him (laugh). It is not like I purposely try to check out all the world trending topics, but I grew up in a family where we watch the news so it has become like a habit. From there, I naturally become well-informed. Something I learned from the members is how there is no meaning to acting strong. I am someone who doesn’t complain to others but I realized I can do it in front of them. I guess this is something that cannot be done if it wasn’t for the environment I am in now, I am grateful.
Hikaru: I often taught Keito dance during debut, but recently I probably have nothing to teach the members. Everyone is inquisitive and there are many times where we learn them on our own. But for Yuto and Keito, we often tell each other songs that we recommend or bands we think that are cool. Since we are together often, from there I also get to know the songs that they like. In the past, I gave Keito a foreign rock band album for his birthday and I felt that since then he has started to get an interest in rock.
A lesson you want to have now
Yabu: Flexibility and body training. Like Fo~yu~, Yaracchi or A.B.C-Z, they do proper body training and that’s why when they dance they are really steady. That is something I cant do. But in conclusion I will still need to train by myself, and haven’t I been going through singing and dancing lessons since my junior days? In other words, I should already have those skills in me. So now I think it is important for me to revise what I have learned (laugh)
Hikaru: Bass lesson. I used to have a one-to-one lesson but my teacher has gotten busy and I have not had lessons for some time, so I do want to start again soon. When I first started learning bass, it was self-taught and I was able to play it to a certain level but after that everything stopped and I realized I wasn’t able to progress further. But after learning from a teacher, i learned more variations when playing the bass, I found out new things, and I also learned skills that only I could do. There are many ways of playing so I think practice will never end.
Recent updates
Yabu: I had an off day on Valentines Day. Five of us friends had nothing on so we thought of going to eat. But on that actual day, three of them suddenly couldn’t come. So in the end two of us went to eat sushi and it was an unforgettable Valentines Day (laugh). For those who couldn’t make it, they probably had dates with girls. Because when I mailed them and asked “why cant you come?”, they didn’t even reply (laugh). But we had a nice date in our own way (laugh)
Hikaru: Recently I went to play basketball with my friend. My friend has always been saying that he wants to play basketball so we went together but there were many experts there and I just kept practicing my three-point shoot (laugh). I don’t really play ball games but last year I started playing tennis. Once I started playing it myself, watching matches has become fun too. So I have started to like playing sports and also watching sports competitions. I didn’t manage to do sports during autumn last year so I feel that this spring will be a spring of sports for me and I am looking forward (laugh).
