“The brand that gives security and trust- it’s YabuHika after all”
Hikaru: We have always been called YabuHika, so I can’t think of anything else other than that.
Yabu: That’s true. It’s embarrassing, but this fits in perfectly.
Yabu: The both of us wrote a song together before right?
Hikaru: We did. During our junior days?
Yabu: No it was after we were in JUMP.
Hikaru: The song Tears and Smile. I composed the melody and Yabu wrote the lyrics
Yabu: Yup. Isn’t it almost 10 years ago already? But I think it was a song when we just became members of JUMP. It wasn’t in any album but we sang it at concerts and tv programmes.
Hikaru: I wrote the melody first, and when I talked about “I have a song like that”, you said “let’s complete it”
Yabu: Because if it were to be a song that belongs to both of us, I would be the one to write the lyrics.
Hikaru: I was crazy over Mr Children during that time, and so I composed a song with a mild tempo that can be played on the acoustic guitar.
Yabu: Yup. Hikaru still didn’t play the bass back then, but the guitar. So nostalgic! After that each of us respectively composed melodies and lyrics but there isn’t another song which me and Hikaru wrote together.
Hikaru: In the album JUMPing CAR, me, Yabu and Dai-chan wrote a song UNION, and that was easy.
Yabu: We wrote the lyrics for each of our own respective parts.
Hikaru: We requested the melody from the composer, but we asked for a melody that suits our lyrics.
Yabu: We probably understood what each of us wanted to do so the melody came out smoothly too.
Hikaru: Yup. We are people who enjoy composing music.
Yabu: I want to have another song where Hikaru composes the melody and I write the lyrics.
Hikaru: Yeah! Actually, I already have a demo song completed which I hope Yabu will fill in the lyrics for.
Yabu: Really? Well, whether it is a song for the both of us, or a song for JUMP, I want to compose a song with Hikaru!
Hikaru: Other than song composing, I wonder what is good for the both of us to do together.
Yabu: I wonder what~
Hikaru: Me and Yabu used to be in the same television program in TV Tokyo, and it was fun when the both of us went for location filming together.
Yabu: Isn’t a trip good?
Hikaru: In the past I would probably think “me and Yabu again?” but now it would feel fresh again and I would look forward to it. Speaking of that, when I went to eat with a director in TV Tokyo whom I had been very close with, he said “I want to create a television program for you and Yabu, a show where both of you go overseas and have a trip by car”
Yabu: It sounds fun driving around Europe! I can forget all my troubles and do as I like with Hikaru.
Hikaru: Ahaha (laugh). Isn’t it just like the MC during concerts?
Yabu: Yup
Hikaru: When both of us are together, I wonder who is the joker and who is the rebutter. (TN. boke and tsukkomi)
Yabu: But even though Hikaru doesn’t intend to joke, it still becomes a joke.
Hikaru: Ah, I am somehow airheaded I think.
Yabu: Yes. Although it seems that you don’t realize which part of you is airheaded, but that is the interesting part. If we go on a trip together, I think you will provide a lot of laughter (laugh)
Hikaru: That’s right (laugh)
Yabu: During the trip, I will be the one to look at the map.
Hikaru: Well, I am hopeless at directions. But even if we are unable to communicate in the local language, I will work hard in using gestures to convey what we want!
Yabu: I will just use the translation app on my smartphone.
Hikaru: Somehow, our personality shows through that (laugh)
Yabu: I think if both of us are in a unit together, we won’t have a dispute.
Hikaru: We haven’t been in a dispute before. Even though we fought when we were juniors because of games, but we haven’t had a real quarrel.
Yabu: Because we know what makes each of us angry. For Hikaru, if he is already displeased over something and you still press him for an answer, he will get even angrier.
Hikaru: I wonder what is it for Yabu… In the past, he would just shout out without reason “Shut up!” and get angry over small matters, but he doesn’t get angry recently so I don’t know what will make him angry. Ah, but both of us hate bad arrangements.
Yabu: When I get angry, I start talking in formal language. I say things like “I do not understand the situation now!” (laugh)
Hikaru: Yabu’s formal language is scary (laugh). Well, but seems that there is nothing much that irritates both of us. Recently, we do go out and eat in private too.
Yabu: When me and Chinen went to eat pork, Hikaru came too.
Hikaru: Yup. Let’s go eat again!
Yabu: Oh! Let’s go!
