Summary: Yabu’s room is messy and Hikaru cuts trees.
Q1. Tell us something you are particular over when it comes to your room
Yabu:
I don’t have any particularities. (Chinen: “Isn’t everything being scattered something you are particular about? (laugh)) ….Well, I don’t pack my room but that’s not something I am particular about (laugh). I am someone who cannot bear to throw things away so I have a lot of stuff. Even though I know among everything, there are things which I don’t need anymore. I often lose my things but of all the sunglasses that I have lost, I still have all their cases (laugh) I also have many mangas and games which I play with so in future if my nephew and niece uses my room I think it will be heaven for them. I have an excuse and I do pack my room about once or twice a year. I do that thoroughly and I do give away clothes which I think I don’t wear anymore.
Hikaru:
Just some time ago, I changed the curtains from orange colour to champagne gold. The wall in my room is greyish so I chose a colour that was close to it. With that I think that the atmosphere became more modern. I also have a slightly huge kotatsu in my room so that everyone can sit there when my friends come over to hang out. My furniture is basically dark brown, and the entire atmosphere feels warm.
Q2. An episode where you invited friends to your house or when you went over to your friend’s house
Yabu:
Recently, Chinen comes over often. And everytime he comes, he says "It’s still so messy!” just like a mother (laugh). We don’t do anything special but we just laze around. I don’t invite people over but I don’t dislike it when others come too. On the other hand, I am quite bad at visiting other’s rooms. I don’t feel at ease when I am in someone else’s house.
Hikaru:
In summer I went to my friend’s house and the garden was overgrown with trees. I said “This is unbelievable” and my friend’s mother said “I have the appropriate tools but the branches are thick so it is hard to cut them” So I said “I will do it” and spent about 6 or 7 hours clearing the branches in the garden (laugh). I like doing such work so I really wanted to do it. At first, you couldn’t even see the road from the garden but in the end I cut away everything and the road can be seen. If you cut too much the trees will look rather shabby so I cut them according to their shape. My friend’s mother was very happy and it was fun for me! Recently, I like inviting people to my house. Because I have the games and things I like at home so it is easy. When my friends come, I buy a whole lot of snacks and drinks and it feels like we are high school students gathering together.
Q3. If a girl invites you over to her house, what kind of room is ideal?
Yabu:
I will retreat if it is too clean. If the books in her shelf are shelved according to their colour, her remote controls are laid side by side, I will feel that I will get scolded if I touch anything, so I probably will just hug my legs and sit in a corner (laugh). But I also dislike it if it is too messy and if there are stains on the cutlery that she brings out I will dislike it too. So I think a room with “a certain extent of lifestyle and cleanliness” is good. Her points will be high if she serves me hot tea properly from a teapot. I will think that she is cool since she made some time to do that for me.
Hikaru:
I guess it is fine if she just shows her lifestyle. If it is strangely too clean, it won’t feel comfortable and the atmosphere will become weird. On the other hand, a super pink room feels magical. Also, if she has flowers displayed on high areas like on top of the curtains, I will think “Dust will definitely pile up there”. I dislike dust so I do take note of the places where we normally cannot reach.
Q4. A person around you who believes in keeping secrets about himself.
Yabu:
Actually, probably Hikaru. I don’t know anything about his private life. He often talks about games but other than that I don’t know anything at all. Even if he says “My friend….”, I don’t know who is that friend at all. On the other hand, I am the open type and don’t keep any secrets. For friends, I introduce my friends to each other and we hang out together. Even if my friends get close to each other and meet without me around, I will feel warm inside and think “It’s great I let them know each other” It feels like my friends are everyone’s friends (laugh). In school, there are a few groups in class right? I belonged to every group, and I was on great terms with everyone (laugh)
Hikaru:
Ino-chan. Since before, he doesn’t say anything about what he does on his off days, and even if he says something, he will just say like “I did DIY”. On the radio show that we are hosting together, he also announced that “I don’t want people to know about me” so he is totally someone who is secretive about himself.
Q5. A hidden character in yourself is?
Yabu:
I am quite open so I don’t have a hidden personality but I think I have many friends. Other than those in the same industry as me, I also have friends who are salarymen and single fathers. I also know my brother’s friends and even though our jobs and ages are totally different, I can be on good terms with them and I think that’s one of my strengths.
Hikaru:
Actually how I love playing games so much is probably my hidden character. Though I often talk about games in magazine interviews and others, but when I coincidentally had a chance to play games in a variety show, those who watched it had a really big reaction. They said “I didn’t know you loved games till that extent”. I normally play three games concurrently (laugh). And in between, I start drawing for my corner in Potato magazine. When I play games, there are times where I think that “the fighting scene was cool” or “the birds in the background look good” and this becomes my inspiration and during such times, I stop my games and let my imagination run wild and start drawing.
Q6. Your recent updates
Yabu:
My birthday is the same as my grandmother on my mother’s side. The entire family always gets together and celebrate but sometimes I am unable to go because of work. But this year I did join in. My grandfather did the setup and we had lunch. When I was young, I was purely happy when people told me Happy Birthday, but when I become an adult, when people tell me that I do say Thank You and my feelings of gratitude have become stronger. Birthdays are days where people wish you so I somehow think that thinking of this day as a day of gratitude means I have really become an adult.
Hikaru:
I went to karaoke with my friend after a long time! I only go once in a while but when i listened to a nostalgic song which my friend hummed, I said “Uwahh~ I want to sing that~!” It is rare that it was me who said “Shall we go to karaoke?” and invited him. We sang for about four or five hours, and sang the nostalgic songs during our school days by Mr Children and Nakashima Mika (laugh)
