aww, don't worry about it. i used to fight enemies on level 3 difficulty (as in, weaker than normal, which is 5 :P) for the longest time. it takes some getting used to.
I played the prologue with the Warrior of Light, and then I did some random Arcade battles, just to get a grasp of how the characters work. I could get up to the 5th bout and then had my ass totally handed to me. ._. So I started back on story mode as Firion and I got my ass handed to me again by this golden idol that enters the battle with ONE hp and still he kills me.
I guess it doesn't matter if you play totally out of order, then? Do the pieces of the story just synch up as you go?
I tried to play Squall in the arcade and found him annoying as hell. ._. Why do all his attacks gotta be close range? But I do like his special EX Core attack, or whatever it's called.
I started off with Cecil. He was freakishly tough for me because of his stupid dual classes. Dark!Cecil's only good on the ground. Light!Cecil's only good in the air. So far, you can only switch between them by firing off an attack which wastes precious seconds!
Then I did Firion. Man is does that get ridiculous until way later when you finally learn a combo move. Jeez. >>
Now I'm doing Cloud. He's ... only level 5 thus far, so I'm sure I'll get horribly frustrated soon.
In other words, I'm pretty drat terrible at this game, too. *cough*
I'm pretty bad at the game too, since I keep forgetting that dodging is ridiculously effective until it's way too late.
...trying to fight a level 13 or something Jecht as a level 5 or 6 Cloud forced me to learn though. Final boss of his story still kicked the crap out of me a few times though.
R+X and the direction you want to dodge in. With good timing you'll leap out of the way of an attack with a green 'Dodge!' note, which I think will also cut long, 'charge towards you' style attacks short as well and leave the enemy open for a second.
