Chapter Four

The house wasn't big. It had 2 bedrooms that attatched to the main room, two baths, and a main room that served as the kitchen and the living room. The livingroom had an old sofa, a tv, and a small fireplace. The kitchen, which was in the same room, cosisted of a small fridge, a microwave, a stove and a sink. It also had some cabinets, but they weren't very big. They lived in an old house right off campus. It wasn't much but they didn't need much. They didn't want much either. They didn't know how long they were gonna live there, so they didn't want to put all they had into it.

Besides that though it was a pretty nice house. Each room had a bathroom connected to it. Though Rubin and Marsh had the bigger one, that didn't bother Aaron because he didn't need much. He barely went back there. Usually he would stay at a friends house or dorm room.

But back to the house. It wasn't much to look at but Rubin and Marsh did as best they could to make it cozy. There were always big sunflowers out front and wild flowers in cups of water around the house. They T.V. had been painted by Aaron and Marsh when they were young. It had been their TV when they lived at home. It used to sit in the Main Play room. Even the couch, which would look great in a garbage pile, looked good. Marsh had put a pretty greenish blue couch cover on it that matched the pale blue walls.

The whole house had pale blue walls. It was Rubin's Favorite Color. Only the bathrooms escaped. They were a pale green color with light pink and white shower curtains. They even had a welcome matt with kittens on it. The windows all had curtains of pale yellow lace. The house in all it's ghettoness, for it was basically IN a ghetto, was cozy.

Even in all it's splendor the house looked dark right now. Aaron had come out of his room and had listened to Marsh and Rubin talk. As soon as Rubin asked the question Marsh went silent. It wasn't her place, and she knew it. As Aaron knew she wouldn't cross the border. So when he answered Rubin had been startled.

"She was beautifully perfect. But that wasn't why i liked her."

Aaron let what he said simmer while he went and got a cherry coke from the fridge and took a seet on the floor in front of the Tv, using it as a back rest. He looked at Rubin who was patiently waiting for him to continue.

"I liked her because it didn't matter to her how rich me and my sister were. Even though she didn't have even close to the money we did."
"Why do you say 'did'?"
"Because we refuse to use our parents money."
"But we could live in a better house."
"Yes, but it is our parents money. We want as little to do with them as possible. If we barrowed money, we will be under them again."

There was silence for a while.

"She didn't care about the money."
"No. She didn't care."
"What DID she care about?"
"Nothing, but she loved everything."
"What!"
"She was complex. Only wanted what she couldn't have." Marsh explained.
"Just give her what she can't have."
"You couldn't. Because then she could have it. So she no longer wanted it."
"So what about the money?"
"She could have it."
"Same with you two."
"No, just me. Marsh would never be her ally."
