So the trailer for Cars 2 was released yesterday, and I'm still unconvinced of how good a movie it's going to be. Don't get me wrong, I actually liked Cars, I just did not think that it was a strong Pixar film. The premise for Cars 2 seems a bit silly, but I'm not going to worry about that so much as if they can pull it off. I think it could be a really funny movie if they play their cards right. Otherwise, OMG Tokyo looks so freaking kick-ass. I can't wait to see what all the language bonuses are. I'm going to reserve judgement for now.
About Tangled. Oh my god Tangled. I have been so conflicted about this film. I absolutely fell in love with the concept art, which looks amazing. Then when the teaser trailer came out I was disappointed. It really seemed that they were playing it to the Shrek crowd, which irked me. Not because I don't like Shrek; that's not the case at all. I just felt like they were trying to sell it as a Shrek replacement now that the series has finished up. In comes the full-length trailers and now I'm feeling a little more hopeful. I really hope Flynn isn't a carbon copy of Naveen (he seems like he's going to be full of lolfail rather than Naveen's go-with-the-flow-sex-on-legs thing), and I really hope Rapunzel isn't pushed to the background to give Flynn more screentime (this may be a trailer only thing to pull in the boys crowds, which is a whole other issue I'm not going to touch). The sense of humour seems right up my alley, though, so I'm sure I'll get a kick out of it for that at least.
Otherwise DISNEY. Y U NO MAKE ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT CLEMENTS/MUSKER NEW MOVIE?
Day 001. Your favorite character: Mulan.
I admire her selflessness. Originally, Disney were going to write her as yearning for a life Out There in the Big Wide World. Sound familiar? Sound like the majority of the heroines/princesses MAIN CHARACTERS from the 90s? Yeeeeaaaaah. I'm glad they decided to go a different route and make her motivation protecting her father. It made it more believable for the setting. I also like how Mulan is at the centre of her movie, and her relationship with Shang doesn't overwhelm everything else. I mean, it's there, and you can see it developing and changing, but it doesn't take the focus away from Mulan's personal story, which is what the film is ultimately about.
