It was quietly that she woke up that morning. Everyone else was already awake in the halls, bouncing from the sound of it. Laughing, chatting, everyone was hyper.
She simply got out of bed to make breakfast.
She took her shower, found the clothes she'd laid out the night before. Even did her hair and makeup just so. Her attire was fixed just so, and a few places required pins. On the whole, though, she looked the part.
By the time she entered the hall everyone else was hurrying down the stairs. She made her way down to join them and found herself in a throng of nervousness. "Isn't it amazing?" people kept saying. It sounded like they were lining up to be picked by Prince Charming, and she allowed herself a small smile for that.
Everyone marched outside when they were supposed to in order to join up with the other groups. In the air was a thrum of energy and excitement, and she felt a little detached from it.
Soon everyone was seated. The crowd inside and out of the ceremony was massive, and everyone mostly settled down. That or kept it to themselves: that was more likely.
Still, finally, it was her turn. Finally, it was hers.
She marched up to the stage and carefully stepped on. And then it was being offered to her despite all the hardships, despite all her bad spots she'd fought to get through. She took it and let herself smile and breathe since she'd gotten up. She made her way back to her seat, her fingers shaking as they clutched her diploma.
It was hers.
And all her anxiousness and nervousness about the graduation came out with her yell when she flung her hat high into the air because dammit, she'd done it.
Which pretty much made her able to do anything she wanted.
