A look at Final Fantasy XI

I like to broaden my horizons with games, I download and play many many different MMO's simply to play them and see how they work.

Here's how it turned out. )

There actually is an option to change the keyboard layout to fit laptops. I know because I had to search for it to play on mine :P FFXI was my first MMORPG and it was fun, yes, but it takes time to adjust. I play WoW right now and find it a bit too easy. With FFXI you have to talk to NPCs till you find quests. No shiny yellow exclamation marks unfortunately but it's not so bad once you get used to it. Later this year I'll probably switch back to FFXI for a bit later this year.

I think when a game forces you to talk to every single person to find what you need, that the designers failed in making it accessible.

It's possible WoW has gone too far the other end, but that convenience isn't something I'd ever complain about. I want to go and kill things not talk to every single person in a city.

Just out of interest. How is FFXI on a laptop? What do they do to change the control scheme?

I forget exactly but when I pick it up again this year I can let you know. I play on a laptop but use an external mouse/keyboard for easier gameplay.

Actually, I just did some research ;) On compact mode you can use wasd for movement. My wife played on a desktop and switched to compact as well for ease in playing.
