A number of events have transpired since my last post. Here are a few:
3 Valleys Water terminate all contract tech support staff. I am temporarily unemployed again.
After a surprisingly small amount of grovelling, I manage to sweet-talk my way back into the good books of the people that offered me the job I turned down just that lunch time.
Had a couple of days off work while in between jobs, so I take the opportunity to launch a blitzkrieg on the rental property market in Barnet.
A few viewings later and 2 old school friends and I have put a holding deposit on a 3 bedroom house near Underhill Football Stadium. If all goes according to plan, we move in March 29th.
Got my new graphics card installed with a little help from one of my future housemates. Take it to a friends LAN party where I get various parts of my anatomy handed to me at a variety of PC games. Repeatedly telling myself "I'm a console gamer" doesn't help.
First week of new job goes well enough. When I'm not chasing up old tech support calls I'm breaking cardboard boxes. Not bad work for what they pay me.
The ever-smiling HR lady instructs me on the "proper" way to answer the phone. Apparently, there are 3 ways I'm supposed to answer the phone depending on who's calling and where they're calling from. I for one find this unnecessary.
So, I believe we are up to date once again. But next week comes the biggest test of my resolve. Because my job is on a rotating 24 hour shift pattern, I'll be doing the night shift from Monday to Friday. That is, 12 midnight to 8 in the morning. I suppose the up-side is I don't have to worry about getting up early. Tomorrow, I plan to wake up at around noon, wander around the house all day, maybe take a nap in the afternoon, then leave for work at around half eleven. Fight to stay awake while keeping an eye on our clients' servers (3-6 are likely to be the hardest hours to stay awake through), get home at around half 8, sleep for as long as I can/like, then repeat for the rest of the week.
