So I spent my weekend in Detroit, at the All Balboa Dance Camp. For those of you who don't know, Balboa is a type of swing dancing. Swing Dancing is a generic term for many types of dances most originating in the 20's and 30's, some of which are, East Coast, West Coast, Shag, Balboa, Hustle, Lindy...ect...ect... I mostly know East Coast, a little bit of Lindy, Shag, and now Balboa. So Friday, I got out of work, went home, played a little City of Heroes, and then drove to Detroit. Got into the event for free, because I am going to be designing their DVD cover, which is massively cool as this is a $130.00 event. Went to the Friday night dance and suffered a case of being shy, because I didn't know Bal. So I didn't dance. Saturday I went to a couple of the workshops and learned the basic step. Missed the last three workshops, because of construction, and a wrong turn... That sucked. Went to the Saturday Dance, and had an absolute blast! There were a lot of people from Lansing there. So I spent most of the night doing East Coast. Got asked to dance several times, which always make you feel good. Watched the competition, which was amazing, I'm talking dancing you don't expect to see outside of movies very often. Made a new friend, Mari, who is an excellent dancer, as well as being massively cool, for letting me use her as my testing dummy for dips, and slow dancing. Got to see something out of COPS, some guy got tasered 3 times in the parking lot of a place called the Rams Horn, Mari was like, "let's stay in the car till they're done". This was at approximately 4am. Sunday I geeked out and played D&D, then went home and played CoH again. All in all, I can't remember the last time I had this much fun. :)
