OK. so, I totally don't expect anyone to read this whole thing. because it is huge.
This is somewhat a recap of my summer. I was trying to think of stuff that I did and it didn't seem like much so I decided to write it all out and see how much I could remember..
I also figured that I haven't updated in months soo what better time to do it then the last official night of summer. Right?
(Prepare for long, possibly boring [if so, I apoligize] post)
My summer started off pretty slowly I think, I was still kind of recovering from spring, travelling, rugby, and it was good just to have a break [although I pretty much had no idea to do with myself..]
The day after Canada day (Sunday) I left for Jazz Band Camp at Acadia University (in Wolfville, NS). I was excited to go back but I knew it was going to be totally different [which it was.]. very few of our friends from the year before were going back, but that was cool because I made new ones. oh man, I hardly got any pictures so I kind of forgot about all the stuff that happened...but now just thinking about it makes me smile.
I got there the first day, not even knowing if I was registered for the camp because we sent in the registration form the day before! ahahah the Palmer way..but no worries, I was in. anyway. so when you register you get a choice of what band you want to be in, depending on how long you've been playing, style, etc. and I asked them when I got there what band I was in annnd they were like "oh...Studio One." and I almost peed myself! Somehow I got into the top level band, and to this day I still don't know why. But it wasn't like overly challenging which was great. It was a blast, the director was crazy. he wouldn't let us yawn. everyday you had a warm-up, sectionals, two 2-hour long rehersals and bloody scales class...ugh..but it's totally not as nerdy as it sounds! remember this is JAZZ camp. aka COOL camp. haha..yah...oh dear\
All in all, I had an amazing week. I missed Morgan like crazy..she wasn't there to mix things up with her sweet jazz flute improv bahahah. I made friends with quite possibly some of the awesomest people I've ever met. People who had ukulele and harmonica jams at free time, busked in downtown Wolfville, did tai chi and yoga whenever the mood struck, "broke into" U-Hall okay..the door was open, we just walked in and Jon was playing the piano and in walks this guy with a badge and a flashlight. Luckily we were able to charm him into letting us go with just a warning.
AND! It didn't rain on beach day! we went to the beach one day and it was soo hot out. The beach was totally man-made. instead of sand they had gravel, and the water was like 10 feet from the grass/park area...weird.
I could write so much more about that week but that was only the second week of summer..whoa.
Okay so after the big concert with all the bands on Saturday, we drove home. got home around 10:30pm, found out Morgan wasn't moving to England (shocked?) ate some food, did a lot of laundry, and slept. The next day I had to finish unpacking, do all my laundry, and repack for another week at camp. what fun that was! of course I was late..
That week I was a counsellor-in-training (CIT) at Camp Abegweit. the kids were 8-9 year olds, pretty much the best age I'd say. They were young enough that they got into all the games and whatnot but old enough that you didnt have to like hold their hand everywhere. Plus they were gullible as hell! haha they listened to everything you said, except..it seemed...when it came to wearing the same shirt, day after day... kids are pretty gross. Hilarious, but gross.
The other staff was awesome, and I was lucky enough to be asked back for another week :) [more about that later..]
So I came home after that, after very little sleep all week, and crashed. I had SUCH a good sleep that night.
To tell the truth, I don't really remember much after that...there was working every Saturday cleaning cottages, occasionally working for my aunt, hanging out with friends, mostly being lazy at home, etc etc.
Foy Family Reunion (Mom's side of the family). It was a lot of fun, my family is crazy. I met and got to know a bunch of cousins I didn't really know I had. It's funny how much you can have in common with someone you've never met but have been connected to your whole life.
Palmer/Nickleson Family Wedding! (Dad's side of the family) hahaa...what a weekend. once again..my family is crazy. Highlights included hearing countless stories about the Stagette party [male stripper..that's all I'm going to say], getting my cup filled to the brim with beer by my uncle, and the chocolate fountain of course.
More of the same after this, I can hardly remember anything from the weeks in between. I guess that's what made it feel kind of empty or something. I kind of got more and more fed up with calling around to 20 houses before finding where my friends were then feeling like a force-invite. so I kind of stopped trying I guess.
-------> Does anyone else love Ok Go as much as I do? They kind of remind me of a mix between Jet and Hot Hot Heat.
In August I went back for another week at camp. This time it was teen camp, pretty much the opposite of the first. My little brother was there so that was a little weird. He wouldn't listen to me at all of course.
I love camp. so much. and I always forget how much until I'm there and I'm thinking like "man...I HAVE to do this again next year" but I know by the time March comes around I'm going to forget.
I definitly want to be a counsellor next year though. It would be tough to be there for the whole summer, but the people who work there are so great, and I think it would be worth it. The last night we woke the campers up at like 1am with whistles and a bugle and we lit a raft on fire. We had a campfire, then after the campers went back to bed we just stayed up on the beach for a while. Most of the counselors went to bed but I was wide awake so I hung out with Mitch and Spencer. We ate cheerios and talked until 3ish. It was super fun. The kind of night you want to keep in mind when trying to remember why you want to be there for the whole summer.
The day camp was over I went home, then had supper with my grandparents at the campground they camp at. They go camping so much and they love it. It's so cute! (the word "camp" was used a lot in those three sentences. ha. )
After that I went to a camp staff party at one of the counsellor's houses. It was fun, although I was the only one sober there.hmm...so that was interesting. I ended off the night by attempting to play Halo. It was actually pretty amusing,I must say.. although I am completely hopeless when it comes to video games.
A couple days after that was another staff dinner/party thing that was actually at camp. it was called the "Abby Awards" and we all dressed up and got prizes for funny stuff that happened over the summer. I got the award for having the worst water balloon aim ahah. It was well suited, I don't think I hit one person the whole water fight. After the awards we did the last playing-of-the-guitars-and-singing-at-the-top-of-our-lungs for the summer. We drove Mitch home on the way to our home.
twas a good night.
and again, can't really remember stuff between that and now.
Maybe I am a hermit.
who goes out for weeks and weekends at a time. Does that make sense?
There were a lot of goodbyes, a lot of Morgan's friends moving away to university/other countries. Goodbyes are tough to say the least. I'm not sure how well I'll handle it when the time comes around for us to all be moving away and whatnot.
it's 2:35 and I'm falling asleep so for now, this is..
TO BE CONTINUED... because all of a sudden I have a lot to write about (the next one will not be as long and boring)
also, to anyone who actually read that whole thing....Wow.
Love
