So we decided to get a kitty because Finnegan is obsessed with them. He's been crawling around on the floor meowing constantly and pretending to be a baby kitty. I think it has something to do with a stray cat that has been visiting us like crazy lately. I have no idea where she came from. Anyways, Nicky's cat just had kittens a while back and wanted to get rid of them so we took on a two week trial basis. We don't want the kids hurting the cat, the cat hating the kids, or the kids playing with the food/litter/water. When the kitty first got into the car she was looking around scared and meowing. Finnegan asked "You ok kitty, kitty you ok?"
I told him the kitty was ok but that she was scared.
He put the kitty on his lap and hugged her and said, "It's ok kitty, Daddy's got you."
It was the sweetest thing ever, and he must have picked it up from us because whenever he's hurt or scared we hug him and say, "It's ok baby, Daddy/Mommy has you, your ok."
So far the kids have been pretty good with the cat. Sometimes Finnegan looks like he's squeezing her too tight but he doesn't seem to do it on purpose and he is trying to be more careful. The kitty doesn't really seem to mind but I don't want her getting hurt. He is always following the kitty around laughing, chasing, and playing with him. He's always telling the kitty goodnight, goodbye, asking the kitty if she's ok or wants to play, and trying to feed her. In short, the kitty is his new best friend. We asked him what the kitty's name was and he said, "Kitty is kitty, ok kitty." So I guess her name is Kitty. Skylin also likes the kitty but not as much as Finnegan. I was a little worried about getting them a pet because I think they are too young and I worry about the kitty getting hurt but so far so good, and the kitty is smart enough to hide from them if she doesn't want to play.
