neither joe or babe have many possessions, so there isn't a lot of stuff to leave around, but babe does his best to keep things put up or away so that joe's crutches dont' get caught on them. after a couple months of particularly foul dirty plates, they always atleast clear their scraps off their plates to give to the street hounds, and move their dirty plates to the sink. (washing dishes instead of leaving them for babe's ma, however, has been a new and infrequent adventure.) (joe's a better dish washer.)
when joe worked at the grocery store he'd bring home milk whenever they needed it, and it became a habit that he continued even after he stopped working there.
the two of them together have quite the sentimental streak, encouraged by bill's reminiscing. babe considers the day joe came up to visit and never left to be their anniversary, because that's where the whole thing started, but joe thinks about things like sleeping in babe's bed or the time they danced in the kitchen after bill's wedding and counts those. they have unspoken anniversaries, too, of bastogne and hospitals and rebuilding life with new jobs and paychecks and the first time babe's ma gathered together her wits and called joe 'like one of her own.'

Omg, Ma Heffron pretty much cracked me up here.
I love how it's all still so bittersweet.
And Babe being lured in by commercials. And Bill trying to fatten the both of them up. And Bill also making them all sentimental like, b/c that's just so very Bill.

ma heffron, bill guarnere = the ones who really run the show.
and bill's always making them come over and have nice hearty italian food with him and fran, and he always makes them all sentimental and then forgets to get up and get something for everyone to drink 'cause of it, until fran smacks him and tells him to remember his manners, and then he's always like "that's my lady!" all proudly and kisses her (and then when she's pregnant he's extra sentimental and she's extra sharp.) ----and obviously i should have done one of these for the two of them, lmao.
