[Opinion] Tohoshinki - Vol. 3 - "T"
Holy crap, it's got to be atleast a good 7 months since I've even thought about reviewing albums. I'm not sure why I stopped... even less sure why I'm even bothering now. But since Jon came over earlier and told me he ordered the Hong Kong Limited 2CD+2DVD set for me... it's been on my mind. xD
I don't think I'll go into my essay long opinion mode this time, but a few comments on each track is good neh? ^_^ And I state like in the past, this is not any sort of formal review, just my personal opinion on the album. You don't like, tough, don't read.
01. Trick
I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this track. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. It think it's because it reminds me of another episode of sitting around watching my brother/friends channel surf. The songs within the song is a fun idea... I nearly pissed myself listening to Junsu remake Michael Jackson's "Smooth Crimimal". xD And Jae's part, it reminds me of this old song I use to listen to... but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. But I don't know, maybe I just need time to get use to the song?
02. NO?
Smooth. The boys' English pronounciation is very good in this track. Well maybe except for when they sing "guilt", but none the less very impressive so I'll forgive them. But 1"No Kiss"?? Why? xD
03. Purple Line
Okay I think I've spazzed enough about this track. And the Korean version is pretty hot too. I can't say that it's my favourite song on the album, but it's up there. The mix of the nasally tone of the boys' voices and the mad bass, it just... works. Not to mention how great Yunnie looks in the PV with the purple extentions. xD I was feeling really iffy listening to the preview of the Korean version, I guess because I was use to the Japanese version... and I thought Junsu's verse was ruined. But listening to the whole thing... I love how they changed his "right now" to "말해줘"... still so hot. xD
04. Forever Love
I love listening to DongBang/Toho ballads, and this time is no different. The emotion in the boys' voices are so captivating... not to mention I love it when they hit high notes. But I don't know, the melody of the song just got boring fast, and the song seemed to drag on... forever. I still like listening to this track... but yeah. >.<
05. Summer Dream
Happy, upbeat song. Odd PV. It works I guess. xD Su's "kiss me", Chunnie's chunglish, Yunnie's engrish... hahaha <3 When I heard that they were releasing a summery single, I was hoping that it would give me the same wonderful feeling Hiyaya has always given me. Sadly it didn't, but it's still a very nice track to listen to. ^_^
06. Ride On
They did a great job covering this song. Though the beat and everything is pretty much the same as the original, their version is so much hotter. Their voices work so much better together. I thought Purple Line was pretty dirty with Chun's "I really wanna touch myself"... but really that's as bad as it gets in that song. This song on the other hand... wow. I finally read the translation of the lyrics, and I... I just... wow. Those sort of suggestive words coming out of their "innocent" mouths. O_O Hehehe okay yeah maybe I did expect it, because this song does give off that pornish suggestive feel. I wanted a PV for this song... and I still do... maybe just a little bit more now. xD Just like in Poopoo Line, the mix of the boys' voices makes me want to cream my pants makes this one hot track. Yes I'm a lover of songs with good bass. lol.
07. DARKNESS EYES ♥ ♥ ♥
I loved the preview. I love the track. This is my favourite of the whole album! The melody, and just the whole sonic landscape this song embodies is brilliant. I love how the underlying piano interweaves with the strings and synthesized/sampled sounds giving this song a dark, sad, mysterious feel. The lyrics (or what I can understand anyways) is also great at shaping the mood. Yunho's first lines "I'M JUST IN DEEP aoi kodokuno (umi no naka)"...wow. Plus there is so much Yunnie in this track. I mean, in the preview I nearly died hearing so much of his voice... now that I have the whole song. Any song with lots of Yunho is great neh? xD I'm just in love with this song so much... it brings me back to the days where I listened to music like this, but less popish.
08. Lovin' You
I still can't make myself like this song. I mean it was nice to listen the first time around... but it's not a song that I will be repeating. I don't know what it is, but something about it annoys the heck out of me. Maybe because Jae just sounds so whiny to me? >.<
09. Rainbow
Hahaha this song. ^_^ Happy happy happy love-filled song with a hint of sappy. It sounds like any other upbeat love song. But I can't help but fall in love with it. It just leaves me grinning like an idiot. xD
10. SHINE
Hehehe water dancing song! ♥ The more I listen to it, the more I fall in love with it. It's just catchy!
11. LAST ANGEL -TOHOSHINKI ver-
I don't know, I like it. It doesn't feel as whole as it did with Koda Kumi singing, but I still like it. An okay cover. I guess it's because I can hear the boys more now that I like it so much. xD Though yes, I do agree it needs that feminine touch to make the song amazing. lol.
12. CLAP!

CLAP YOUR HANDS CLAP YOUR HANDS CLAP YOUR HANDS TOGETHER ♪
This is one of the songs where you try your hardest not to like, but end up clapping along to anyways. It's just too catchy, it's bordering infectious. I really love how Chunnie says "HIGH PRESSURE dakara KISS ME PLEASE"... it was kinda hot. And of course Yunnie and his rapping. ♥ There's something about this track that bugs me too... but I can't get enough of it. I just put this song on repeat. See! T_____T
13. Love in the Ice
I love. Period. Everything about this song is amazing. Everytime this song comes on, no matter what I'm doing, I sit back, close my eyes and just listen. At the climax of the song, with Junsu belting out and the other boys' voices weaving in and out. Beautiful.
14. Together
The first time I actually heard this track was when I watched the PV... and I snorted milk up my nose. xD It's a cute song. ^_^
15. Song For You
Wasn't a big fan of it when the single came out. Still not.
16. Day Moon ~Harudal~
Okay. I still prefer the Korean version though.
17. Beautiful Life
Same as above. There are some tracks that are better left as they are. I really love this song, but in this Japanese version the boys' voices just sound too matured compared to when they first sang Beautiful Life. It doesn't have the same innocent feeling it did... like in the Korean version, I really believed in that beautiful life.
18. You're My Miracle
Never cared for the song much, so I can't really give a good opinion on how I feel about it in Japanese.
19. Kiss Shita Mama, Sayonara
*cries*... break my heart why don't you. From the beginning with Yoochun's "open... open your eyes" to the ending with Jae's "sayonara" my heart just bled. I don't think I've been this emotionally pulled by a song in a while (Insa anyone?). And as depressing as it was, I loved every moment of it. ^_^ I'm also a sucker for songs that uses piano for melody and accompanied by a strings section. xD
Though there are a few tracks that I don't care much for, on a whole the album is grade A. Some tracks made me go O_o at first, but I guess the boys are starting to go in a new, different direction, and it's not that bad. ^_^ I can't wait till my copy comes in! *does happy dance*
