More of the fireworks story!! *bounces* by stardance

Genuises drabble! by maderr

I finally got an idea for Maderr's summer challege! *feels...vindicated? productive? dorky?*

It's a story about cows. Or about farm life. Something which I only have experienced vicariously over summers, but still. ^_^;; Actually I got the idea for this when I went to my cousin's wedding and spent three hours driving to Alexandria with my parents in MN. There's lots of farms to be seen. And lakes. And cows! You would think I'd know more about cows since I spent a summer working in a teaching barn at U of MN where I got up at five in the morning so I could shovel manure, but amazingly enough, I remember very little about that entire summer. Sleep deprivation will do that. (I suppose everyone has a job in their lives that they look back on and wonder what the f'ing hell they were thinking when they took it. This is mine. For an entire summer I got up at five in the morning to catch a city bus from Minneapolis to St. Paul on the weekdays and every other weekend, I walked from the East bank to the St. Paul campus via the same route the campus commuter took at five in the morning so I could make it to work at six since the buses didn't run that early on the weekends. I was out of my fucking mind. I had one hell of a well toned and muscled body, but it was insane all the same.)

All I remember about it is that goats are not half as cute or as nice as they look, pigs are a pain in the ass, rams bite and leave freaking huge bruises when they decide that they don't want you standing where you are and only chase the cows around yelling at the top of your lungs when you're standing far enough away from them that they can't kick you.

So...I spent half an hour quizzing my parents in the car on what it would take to hypothetically raise a cow. >_>;; Unfortunately, I still have learned very little. Boy, am I a city chick. Who, at one point in life, was very very confused and had delusions of the country life.

So! I'm gonna fudge the details, they aren't important anyway... Yay cows!

Oh, and just because it amused me:

Me: So heifers are girl cows?
Mom: Yes, but they're virgin girl cows.
