Author: Skylar Inari
Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Haruno Sakura, and her mom.
Prompt: 002. Pink
Word Count: 112
Rating: G

"Why is my hair pink?" Sakura sulked over her breakfast, "Your hair isn't pink and neither is Dad's, so why does mine have to be?"
Her mom smiled at her, "Does it bother you?"
"Some kids make fun of me. And it doesn't go well with anything! Can't I - "
"No dear, we told you that you can't dye it until after graduate."
"That'll be years!" Sakura looked furious, "Who'd like a girl with pink hair?"
"The one for you." Her mom told her calmly, unmoved by the argument. "Did you want another piece of toast?"
"No." She sighed, "But Mom, why - "
"Genetics, Dear. That's why. Now hurry along, you don't want to be late."

Title: Like A Rose
Author: Skylar Inari
Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Yamanaka Ino, and Yamanaka Inoichi
Prompt: 036. Rose
Word Count: 483
Rating: G

She frowned at the rose Suzume-sensei had given her at the end of the kunoichi class. Suzume-sensei had given a different flower to every one of them with the assignment to write how a kunoichi must be like the flower they held.
A rose was pretty she decided, and it meant love...
But what did that have to do with being a good kunoichi?
Ino glared at the flower which sat on her desk in in vase and huffed. This was stupid, Ino thought sitting cross-legged on her bed. She could see how knowledge of flowers and other plants was useful but not how it could possibly be of use to be a flower.
Her door opened and she whipped around to find her dad stepping into her room. He looked tired enough that she decided she wouldn't yell at him for entering her room. "Hi, Dad!"
"Hello, princess." He kissed her on the forehead then sat beside her. "How was your day?"
She smiled at him."Suzume-sensei gave us an assignment I don't understand."
"Oh?" Her dad looked interested, "What kind of assignment?"
"That." She pointed at the flower, "We're supposed to write an essay on how a kunoichi must become like a flower. Suzume-sensei gave each of us a different flower."
Her dad hummed in thought, "When is this due?"
"Next week." Ino slumped, "But I wanted to get it over with - Kari-chan's birthday is on Sunday and we're too busy in the shop on Saturday's for me to work on it."
Tugging gently on her ponytail she peered up at her dad, "Can you give me a hint?"
A smile crossed his lips, "I never took kunoichi training." She giggled and he continued on, "But fine, I'll give you a small hint. Just for you."
Tugging her notebook towards her she waited eagerly for him to start.
"What do you first think when you see a rose?"
Ino blinked, that wasn't what she was expecting. "Um... it's pretty?"
"That's good, write that down." She didn't see his lips tug into another smile as she complied with a shrug.
"Alright, now. What does a rose have?"
"Petals?"
"Yes, and what else?"
She looked at the flower then beamed, "It's got thorns!"
"That's right. Write that down and then tell me how that could apply to the assignment Suzume-sensei gave you."
Her dad was smiling at her so she did her best. "Um... kunoichi are supposed to be pretty but also have the skills to compete with the boys. So, that would be their thorns? We can fight as well as look nice?"
"Think you can write an essay on that?"
Ino kissed him, and laughed, "I'll be done in no time!"
"Just what I'd expect. Come on princess, you can work on it downstairs. I'm making dinner tonight, and I'll need the company." He stood and stretched, then with a pat on her head left her to her work.
So Suzume-sensei thought that she should be like a rose...
Ino beamed. She'd do her best.

Title: Signature Color
Author: Skylar Inari
Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Uzumaki Naruto
Prompt: 003. Orange
Word Count: 135
Rating: G

Orange was, he knew, an awful color. It was obvious, lacked any sort of dignity, and most people couldn't stand it in mass quantities.
That was why he wore it.
Nobody could pretend that he wasn't there when he dressed that way. Orange was a hard color to ignore. He liked that about it.
It made it easier for him to be recognized, and that was an important part of his dream. What kind of a Hokage was unrecognized? When others told him that it was an awful color for a shinobi he didn't care - he'd just beat any enemy he came across. It was his color and that was that. He wasn't changing his mind no matter who told him it was a bad idea.
Besides, it had been the only thing the shop-keeper would sell him.

Title: Down And Dirty
Author: Skylar Inari
Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Yamanaka Ino
Prompt: 045. Dusty Rose
Word Count: 154
Rating: G

She was filthy, her muscles ached from strain and she had numerous scratches on her arms and legs.
And she was happy.
Ino blew her bangs out of her face and peered through the trees. The enemy was still there, though the last glimpse she had of him had shown he was tiring. She was what she'd always wanted to be - a competent shinobi - and while there were times when she wondered why she had taken on a dream so difficult, there was nothing she'd rather do.
Frowning in concentration she spotted him crouched in a tree, a few branches lower than her half a clearing away. Excellent. Glancing at Shikamaru she nodded her head in the target's position. He nodded, knowing what she had in mind.
Being careful to position herself so that she wouldn't be readily seen, Ino grinned. She'd become what Suzume-sensei had told her to. She'd show them her thorns.
"Shinranshin no Jutsu!"

Title: Smaller Worlds
Author: Skylar Inari
Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Rock Lee, Tenten
Prompt: 091. Robin's Egg
Word Count: 173
Rating: G

"This is a nice color. It'll go good with your furniture." Tenten told him while they were taking a break from the paint fumes, "Is that why you picked it?"
Lee looked at the sky for a moment before answering, "When I was younger I found a nest of eggs on the ground this color. It was my first test - to put the nest back in its tree. That was the right thing to do."
"That's sweet." She smiled at him, "So your painting your living room the color to remind you of past accomplishments?"
He shook his head and struck a pose, "No! It's to remember that there are other worlds out there."
"Other worlds?"
Lee liked that about Tenten, she didn't laugh at him as much as other people did. She took him seriously. "It is our duty to protect the smaller worlds as well as our own. I paint with this color so I don't forget." He grinned, "That's why."
She reached out and touched his arm, "Lee, I don't think you'll ever forget that."

All stories are unbeta'd and rough draft. I don't own Naruto, Kishimoto does.
