[ The Boyband's Guide to Happiness - ChangMin ] Duet Intermezzo
MinHa. G. 910 words. ChangMin & Younha prepare for their first date.

Author's Notes: Intermezzo is a musical term which refers to an interlude which connects two main parts of a composition.

"Come on, ChangMin! Don't you trust us? We promise to make this date the best!" JaeJoong says, following ChangMin around the apartment. "Ya... you don't even know where to bring her, do you?"

ChangMin stops in front of the kitchen counter and makes himself a cup of coffee, "Aish. Do you think I'm an invalid, hyung? I can very well take care of myself, okay?"

JaeJoong pouts, sneaks in beside the younger boy and says, "So where are you taking her?"

"It's none of your business," he replies, casually. The mild tinkling of silver on porcelain fills the kitchen, and JaeJoong sighs in defeat. He knows ChangMin and his incessant need for keeping secrets. He tsk-tsks when ChangMin sits at the kitchen table and watches him intently as he sips his coffee slowly.

"Aish, you're driving me crazy..." JaeJoong mutters and goes off to find YooChun.

ChangMin smiles and shakes his head. You're not ruining this for me, hyung.

Younha's bed is cluttered with clothes, clothes and more clothes. For the past two hours, she has been looking for the appropriate thing to wear for tonight's dinner with ChangMin, but so far only successfully ended up making a huge mess in her hotel room.

Sighing, she sits on the floor and pulls out her mobile phone from her pocket. She looks for ChangMin's number and sends him a message:

Where are we going tonight? ^^

A minute later, she receives a message from him:

It's a surprise.

Younha hits her forehead with her mobile phone lightly. Ahhh, why don't I know anything about dating?

Four in the afternoon and ChangMin is frantic. He hasn't made any reservations anywhere, and has yet to decide whether to go somewhere fancy, or settle for something more comfortable and casual.

"Given up yet?" YooChun hisses, startling him enough to send him rolling off his chair.

"Aish!" ChangMin exclaims as he picks himself up, "You should really stop doing that!"

YooChun shrugs, "Only if you stop doing that to us." He looks at ChangMin's laptop screen. "I see you're still looking for a place... why don't you leave it to us? It's not bad to rely on us sometimes, you know."

ChangMin frowns. "You really think I'm gonna screw this up, don't you?"

"Of course not, but we want you to focus on looking good tonight... so leave the planning to us." YooChun nudges him, "What do you think? Huh? Huh?"

"Ahhh, I don't even know what I'm doing," ChangMin admits, finally. YooChun smiles, appreciating the fact that ChangMin has just acknowledged the fact that he does need help sometimes. He pats ChangMin on the back and whispers, "YunHo hyung is waiting to lend you some clothes. If JunSu suggests anything, DO NOT take it. Understood?"

The younger boy's eyes grow uneven when he laughs.

It's half an hour past six, and Younha is looking at herself in the mirror gingerly, wondering if she looked the least bit pleasant. It's hard to be this boyish sometimes, she thinks, feeling awkward in a simple blue-green dress and strappy sandals she just bought at a boutique nearby. She combs her hair and leaves it flowing loosely over her shoulders, making her face look smaller than it already is.

Her hands are ice-cold. Why am I so nervous?

It's only dinner, Younha. It's not like you've never had dinner with another guy before.

Why hasn't he SMS-ed me yet? I hope he's not cancelling or anything.

She plays something random on the piano in her hotel room to pass the time, waiting for ChangMin to send her a message. Fifteen minutes later, she doesn't hear anything else in the room but her piano playing. Her shoulder drops, and the room is silent once more.

Maybe he found better things to do.

"Yaaaa! You look fantastic!" YunHo exclaims and the three other boys agree, clapping their hands as if watching a model walking down the runway. ChangMin smiles uneasily, "Okay, can I go now? I'll be late!"

The four older boys rush and walk him to the door. JaeJoong hands him a pocket mirror, "Make sure you look good... and don't get any green veggies stuck in your teeth!" he advises and JunSu almost drools laughing.

"Just be yourself, okay? Don't be nervous!" YunHo says, giving ChangMin a shoulder massage.

"Speak for yourself. You're the one who can't even look into a girl's eyes!" YooChun quips and ducks to avoid YunHo's palm.

ChangMin nods and thanks them, scratches his head at all the noise and confusion going on, "Thanks... hyungs. I'll be back soon." The four raise their fists at him, and he does the same before he turns around to leave.

"CHOIKANG CHANGMIN FIGHTING!" JunSu shouts in the background as the apartment door closes behind him.

Younha's phone rings at exactly seven in the evening, and she smiles when she sees who it is.

"Hello?"

"Younha... I'm so sorry..." she hears ChangMin say, in between breaths.

Younha's heart sinks, "It's alright, ChangMin-ah. I know you guys are busy."

"Annio, annio..." ChangMin says quickly, "I'm sorry I kept you waiting. I'm on my way to the old ramen house near your hotel. Do you know the place?"

"Oh, of course!"

"Shall we meet there then?" he asks.

Younha smiles and slips her sandals on again, "Yes, that'd be perfect. I'll be there in ten minutes."

"Great. I'll see you..."
