Crash: Four minutes, twenty-seven seconds
"Hurry up, hyung! I'm starving!" ChangMin calls and makes a run for the hall, fearing the worst: a wiped-out snack bar. As he turns at a corner, he gasps as he crashes into something - or someone.
She lands hard - ass-first - on the floor, winces at the sharp feeling of sensation at her backside and looks up at the culprit: Shim ChangMin.
He is apologetic, she'll give him that. He holds his long, lanky and yet strong arms out at her and helps her get back up on her feet. "I'm so sorry," he starts, his brows creasing with worry. "I wasn't looking where..."
"Kwenchanayo," she says softly, dusting her clothes. She slings her backpack on her right shoulder and bows to him before walking past.
"W-wait!" he says and reaches for her arm to stop her. When she looks at him, he pulls his hand back and hides it shamefully in his jeans pocket. "I'm sorry, let me walk you to your dressing room."
She doesn't say another word, but lets him walk beside her until they reach her dressing room, five doors away from the crash site. "Er... are you sure you're alright?" he asks, feeling like an idiot. All of a sudden, his stomach makes unpleasant growling sounds, and he tries to cover it up by coughing against his fist.
She stifles a giggle and fishes something out of her backpack. "Here..." she says and hands him a small lunch box. "It's not much but... still. The snack bar outside's already closed."
"Oh..." he feels his face flush when she smiles at him. "Thank you..."
Phone Call: Three minutes, forty-two seconds
Somehow, he gets hold of her private number - after much teasing and bullying from his hyungs and other sunbaes, even hoobaes - and decides to call one morning. There is an awkward silence after she says, "Hello" and he remembers to be polite.
"Younha-ssi? Hi, this is..." he stutters as he says his name andwonders if he should continue introducing himself - Should I say Shim ChangMin? Choikang ChangMin? ChangMin of DongBangShinKi? - just in case she doesn't know him by name. Her voice is soft when she echoes his name, and by the tone of her voice he knows that she remembers.
"I just want to thank you... for the other day..." he says, feeling more and more embarrassed with each word he utters. "Sorry, I wasn't able to give you your lunch box back. I looked for you backstage after the-" he stops, ponders if he's giving too much of himself away and finishes with an awkward pause.
He imagines her smiling when she begins to speak, "It's alright. I've plenty of lunch boxes here at home, you don't need to worry." She lets out a soft laugh and punctuates it with, "I'm pretty scared to go hungry so I make sure I've got lunch boxes handy all the time."
"So how was it?" she asks.
"I'm sorry, how was what?"
"The lunch box," she says. "Actually, I was pretty embarrassed to give it to you then, because I prepared that lunch box. But I felt sorry for your tummy. I hope it didn't cause any inconvenience."
ChangMin shakes his head, "Oh no, not at all. It was delicious!" he lies. Younha doesn't know that ChangMin kept the lunch box intact, and that it has since been sitting in the refrigerator with a post-it that says "OFF-LIMITS" stuck on it.
Tryst: Two minutes, thirty-three seconds
Younha's rehearsals don't start till fifteen minutes later, but she insists on warming her fingers up on the ivories. She's just started playing a random song when she sees someone waving at her from the stands. She squints, even if it's already too obvious considering the body frame.
"ChangMin-ssi..." she says, bowing to him when she approaches. "What are you doing here?"
"Just passing by," he says, shyly. With the way his hand is rubbing his nape, one would think he's having a bout with stiff neck. "I heard you were around here somewhere."
She nods, "Rehearsals." She jerks her head to the direction of the piano. "The usual."
"I see... well, I won't really stay that long. I just came to give you this," he says and hands over a neat, brown paper bag.
She peeks in and sees her lunch box - not empty like she expected, but almost brimming with kimbap and kimchi. His heart jumps when she makes a long "WAH" sound and couldn't seem to bring himself to say anything else.
Her eyes almost disappear when she thanks him, and he excuses himself awkwardly for the last time before he runs out the rehearsal hall. When the hall door closes, Younha clutches the paper bag close to her chest, a permanent smile painted on her lips.
