One of my schools is getting a new temp teacher starting tomorrow. The grade 1 teacher is taking some time off, at least till the end of the first semester, so he's subbing for her. I can't say that I'm very impressed with him so far. We ate lunch together in the "rest"room, and I kept trying to talk to him in Japanese but he just wouldn't warm up to me. Actually, from the way he was acting, you would've thought I was trying to poison him or something. The first thing he said after being introduced to me was "ah, eigo ga nigattete...." Ah yes, that's always the best first impression to give someone after being introduced to them for the first time - telling them to their face that you can't, a.k.a don't even wanna try to, speak their language.... Well, I guess he was really really nervous, but still, I can't help but miss the cute science teacher last year who talked to me in Jinglish like we were best buddies from day 1! *sigh* I dunno. I guess I just have less and less tolerance each day for people who find me intimidating just cuz I'm not from Japan, even after I've done my best to accommodate them by speaking to them in Japanese! The best thing about cute science teacher (besides the obvious fact that he was really cute) was that he always met my flawed Japanese halfway with his flawed English, and any mistakes we made just made the conversation better cuz it gave us something to laugh at each other about....
