So after visiting the To Write Love On Her Arms website I discovered that Dustin Kensrue, the lead singer of Thrice (note: THRICE, the heavy, screamy, riff-ish, loudass band) had put out a solo album. Now, I had heard that he was putting out an acoustic solo album so my interest has been peaked more than once. On blind faith I bought the album for $10 on iTunes.
It sounds like country. A lot like country. And he covers "Go Tell It On the Mountain" and a four minute version of "Silent Night" (yes, the christmas song). It's weird and, unfortunately, not even very good. I guess I was hoping for a "Rainbow in the Dark", Ronnie James Dio spinoff type album (meaning: not the original band but somewhere in the same vein of awesome.)
Twice in twenty four hours I have learned a valuable lesson: don't assume anything, ever, especially not what time the band you want to see will start playing and that a spinoff project will be sweet.
