On a happier note: concerts!

Friday night we went down to Providence to see an old favorite, Social Distortion.  For some reason they weren't playing in Boston, but in New Hampshire on Weds, and Rhode Island on Fri.  We opted for Fri, since either way it's at lest an hour to the venue, it'd be easier on a weekend night.  Man, is Providence way more laid back than Boston.  I was worried we wouldn't be able to get a table at the bar I knew of nearby, but it was a cinch.  The venue wasn't too nuts either.  We actually saw both opening acts because everything went to smoothly. We had seats, which is good.  It tend to be a rowdy punk show with these guys, and nothing against being shoved around and trampled, but after a long week at work, I want some space for my head-banging.  Yes, I know, it's always the short, quiet ones isn't it ;-)  There was no AC at the venue, so I was totally soaked in sweat by the time we got out.  Yuck.  But it was still a good time.  We had a hilarious pair of teenagers next to us who wanted to sit through the whole show and actually golf-clapped between songs.  If I am 10 years older than you and showing way more enthusiasm than you, you're doing it wrong.  Got home at 2am-ish (only to wake up to deal with all that car stuff on Sat).

Last night I went to Arcade Fire.  Man, they are good.  My seats were so much better than I thought.  I thought I was going to be way on the edge of the right-hand side, like 20 rows back.  Not that those are bad seats, but when I got there, I headed to the side of the venue I thought I was on, only for the usher to tell me to go towards the middle.  I ended up being maybe a dozen rows back, and on the aisle seat of the section.  Perfect for a short person like me.  No one to obstruct my view!  They really do bring the energy I must say.  They played a number of tracks from the new album.  (Which isn't getting great reviews, but I liked them in concert.  Which isn't all that unheard of.  Maybe I'll like the album better after hearing it live.)  But they got the best response from the crowd when they kicked into Funeral tracks.  I'd definitely see them again!  I think it was the best concert of the year so far.

Tonight is Gaslight Anthem, so we'll see how they compare ;)
