Winter 2008
I'm taking 12 units this quarter because I am a crazy woman... and believe that concentrating on work and school for... 52 hours a week... is a good idea.
Though I'm excited about one class in particular. It's called 'Women and Leisure' and the purpose of the course is to learn about how leisure affects the quality of life for women in particular.
"This course explores women and their leisure and recreation pursuits from creative, historical, and cultural perspectives. Students will examine the factors that influence leisure opportunities, effects of positive and negative leisure behaviors, and leisure’s role in contributing to the quality of life of women. Women’s leisure expression is a reflection of societal change. Social and cultural mores, values, beliefs, and self-concepts that shape these changes are among the social and personal forces that will be researched and explored."
We get to do fun things... for assignments! The final project is basically to do an activity you wouldn't normally do. Most of the examples given cross gender lines. (example: girl at gun range, even strip club, boy at tearoom, or getting a pedicure.) Don't know as of yet what I'm going to do. We'll see as we go.
FYI 300 is a very pretty movie.... ;)
