The crazy questionnaire...

May 25, 2009 14:22

Tired of me yet? Sorry for posting a lot, but I just finished the 100 questions and wanted to get it up.

I remember seeing this meme when I first got into the fandom and thinking something along the lines of, "...oh god, I don't know the answers to any of these questions. How the hell are they doing it?!" *laugh* However, since it was revived and I'm pretty sure I finally know enough to do it, I'll take a stab at it. :D

Be forewarned: this is extremely biased towards Hanagumi... obviously. *headcomp* And I'm pretty sure I left some names out that I couldn't think of. >.<

100 Takarazuka Questions

1. Please tell us your name, age, and your history of being a fan.
Stephanie, and I've been 18 for a month and a half now. I became a fan in May, 2007 when I was researching Kabuki and followed a link to the Takarazuka wiki page. I was immediately intrigued and decided to change my topic to that instead. Of course, this lead to mass googling, which lead to a clip of "Bara no Fuuin" which was full of red velvet, pretty wigs and, most importantly, vampires. XD Once I discovered there were clips on Youtube, that pretty much sealed my fate and I've been a fan ever since. It’s been two years now. <3 I never would have thought I'd get this deep into it...

2. What was the first performance you saw? It doesn't have to have been a live show, it could be a video or DVD.
I suppose you could say "Bara no Fuuin," since that was the very first material I saw. But the first full show was Hanagumi's Elisabeth.

3. What was the performance that first addicted you?
Again, "Bara~" was pretty good at getting me hooked. However, after seeing all the clips of Hana's Elisabeth, it encouraged me to spend 40$ when it showed up on eBay and that show really convinced me that Zuka was getting me addicted.

4. Who is the "first love" that lead you to becoming a Takarazuka fan?
Haruno Sumire, hands down.

5. Do you mainly go to see shows at the Daigekijou [Grand Theater] or the Tokyo Gekijou?
....never been to either. TT_TT

6. Please tell us the otokoyaku you support. More than one is okay.
Hanagumi (Somewhat in order....):
Aine Harei, Matobu Sei, Sou Kazuho, Misuzu Aki, Nozomi Fuuto,

Everyone else (not so much in order...):
Ranju Tomu, Ayabuki Mao, Otozuki Kei, ...and I have the distinct feeling I'm missing someone...

7. Please tell us the musumeyaku you support. More than one is okay.
Gah, I fail when it comes to musumeyaku outside of Hana... Anyway:
Hanano Juria (♥), Sakura Ichika, Sakurano Ayane, Shirahane Yuri

8. What musicals do you like? Up to three is okay.
Kurotokage, Me and My Girl, Jose & Carmen

9. What revue shows do you like? Up to three is okay.
I love revues... I think it's because they don't require concentrating on what's going on. XD
Anyway: Cocktail, Enter the Revue, Tuxedo Jazz

...that was easy. XD

10. Which, of the performances you've seen so far, was one that you thought "I absolutely must get tickets for this!"
Well, considering I'm not likely to get to see anything live any time soon... =P
But.. of the shows that I've seen, I would have loved to have tickets to see Kurotokage / Tuxedo Jazz. Oh, and stupid reason but, hearing Osa (and Yumiko *g*) say "Stephanie.." in Utakata no Koi live would have been... beyond amazing. XD

Also, haven't seen it, but I wish I could see Taiou Shijinki... I don't care about the reviews that it's gotten. ¬_¬ I could probably watch Hanasiennes just stand around onstage for 3 hours and be amused... add to that those gorgeous costumes and singing (whether the songs be mediocre or not) and I'd call that 3 hours well- spent.

11. Outside of the ones you support, is there a seito that you're interested in?
Hanagata Hikaru (I support her just... she hasn't made it as high up on my list as the others yet XD), Ryouga Haruhi (enough exposure does start to brainwash you. XD And she is very pretty ♥), Seijou Kaito, Ryuu Masaki (gorgeous smile ♥), Kiriya Hiromu, Yuzuki Reon, Shihou Nanami, Shiyou Rene.... GAH I don't know! They all interest me!

12. Of the ones on their way to the top, so to speak, which seito do you like? More than one is okay.
...I'm no good at knowing who's on the star track. ^^; Rantomu counts here, right? Also, Kimu and Masaki.

....Miwacchi isn't on the star track, is she? TT_TT

13. Please tell us which of the "avuncular type older seito" do you like?
Misa Noeru. Amazing person and I love her to bits. ♥ I would also say Hacchi-san but... she kind of scares me. XD

14. Please tell us which of the "older sister type seito" do you like?
Ummm... *headcomp*

Okay, I know she doesn't really fit here but, I've always seen Juria as older than she really is and I can totally see her as an older sister. ^^; I think it's been reinforced by her role as Yuu-kun's mother in Taiou Shijinki as well... >.<

Hmmm, I'm also tempted to say Eri Chiaki... Oh! And Rika Masumi, who I've been fond of since Elisabeth. Except they would be more like aunts than sisters.

(See, I told you I fail at knowing anyone, particularly musumeyaku, outside of Hana >.<)

15. Please tell us your strong point and weak point as a Takarazuka fan.
Strong: Um, I throw myself the best I can into supporting my favourites and Hanagumi in general?

*laugh* I think a strong point of anyone is our ability to embrace the feathers and the shiny. ♥

Weak: I generally suck at recognizing faces of anyone who I haven't obsessed over for a certain amount of time. Though there are some exceptions that I know right away; Miwacchi, Ahi, Sonoka, and Magee, for example, I recognized after what seemed like seeing them only once. o_0

16. What's your greatest boast as a Takarazuka fan?
I....really don't know if I have one. o_0 *shrug* Anyone know of a reason why I should be boasting? Maybe that I have a family (well... a mother) who supports my addiction as best she can?

17. What's your greatest confession as a Takarazuka fan? Feel free to elaborate.
………..There is one particular Hanasienne who, I hate to say, I really can't stand. -_-; I feel bad but.. I can't help it. Something about her just got on my nerves the very moment I saw her... and I'm particularly spiteful when she gets promoted over others. But I feel really bad, because I'm supposed to love everyone in my troupe. >.<

18. Is there a musical you wish they would put on again?
Um... I think Chie has the power to do justice to Jose & Carmen... but it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Zunko/Hana doing it. >.<

I don't know... is Tango Argentina an odd choice? I really liked it (of course... the sheer number of tangos in it probably influenced my opinion of it *_*) and wouldn't mind seeing it again.

*shrug* Nothing else really came immediately to mind.

19. Is there a revue show you wish they would put on again?
*g* I love Enter the Revue but yeah, three times is enough, just like Cocktail (although, now that I mention it... I'd love to see Yuu-kun's take of it. ♥) Barring those two, I really liked VIVA!, and Tuxedo Jazz will always be a good option in my mind.

20. Please try and analyze the kind of seito you're inclined to become a fan of.
.........errrrr......
Osa-esque nose. *laugh* No, seriously, look at the list, they could all be related because of the nose. XD
Um, other than that.. I don't think there's a certain type that I'm drawn to. I mean, I can't say I go for tall or short, because I never really know how tall they are unless I look it up. I think I'm definitely a victim to..er, the hot aspect of a sienne. XD Like, if someone managed to make me giggle like a little fangirl (ie. Osa, Yuu-kun, etc), I'm pretty much done for. ^^; On the other hand... cute and fluffy is good too, and I like siennes that really seem to have a lot of energy and a really outgoing personality.

Example: I realised in S[es] how much I like Mattsu and Kariyan. Why? Because Mattsu was being hilarious and basically trying to steal the show from Osa (O: "Whose dinner show do you think this is?"), and Kariyan just has so much energy, you can't help but like her. ♥

21. Who do you think is currently best suited to a black tailcoat?
.....all...of....them.....? XD I don't think I can pick one. =P Actually no, I think Eritan looks really good in them. ♥

22. Do you ever actually use the words "lead otokoyaku"?
I don’t think I do, no.

23. Some comments on Todoroki Yuu.
Um....well....
I'm not a huge fan. I haven't seen a full show that she's been in (other than a TCA Special, and that doesn't count) so I can't comment on her acting and whatnot, but her singing doesn't appeal to me at all. And her offstage personality just seems so… I don’t know, like she’s too full of herself. *hides*

24. What do you think are requirements for an otokoyaku on her way to the top?
Wait... what my requirements are, or what seems to be Hankyu's requirements? ... I'll just go with the latter.

It seems Hankyu has gotten too far into promoting based on looks. As it’s been said by others, they definitely seem to be lowering the age as well, which worries me because it won’t allow them to really grow and reach their full potential.

Personally, I think a lead otokoyaku (wait, I just said I never use that phrase XD) should have the talent, confidence, and personality to lead an entire troupe of ~80 women. Looks shouldn't dictate whether or not an otokoyaku is star material or not (unrealistic to think this way these days but, a girl can dream, right?).

25. What do you think are requirements for a musumeyaku on her way to the top?
Erm... I really don’t know how to answer this. Really, it’s not that different that otokoyaku: looks, popularity, etc.

26. What do you think of Asami Hikaru Matobu Sei?
*g* You really want me to go into this?

Well, once I got over the "OMGWTF SOMEONE OTHER THAN OSA LEADING HANAGUMI?? NOOO~~~", I quickly came to realise just how talented and hot she is. I think she first got my attention in the '07 TCA Special and Osa's Sayonara show, in which she did this... eyebrow thing that nearly made me choke on my drink. XD Of course, I tried to ignore that, because I was all bitter that she took Osa's place, but that didn't last long. As soon as I was exposed to her more, I embraced her as the new top (even if she isn't a Hana pure-blood XD) and I can truthfully say that she's pretty high on my list of favourites now. ♥♥♥

I think it's a shame that she doesn’t seem to be getting shows that are very well received because she has such talent, and I don't want to see it wasted. I had hoped that Me and My Girl would boost her popularity, but now that they’ve announced that Rose of Versailles will be immediately following it, I’m worried again.

27. What do you think of the Taka-Hana Touko-Asuka combination?
Although I've only seen one of their shows, they definitely give the air of being a very mature combi. At first I was a little iffy about Asuka, because I had only seen her Hanagumi era and I always found her a bit... screechy. >.< After seeing Scarlet Pimpernel though, and seeing how well those two went together, my opinion changed completely. I will be really sad to see them go in April...

And because this reminded me: When Asuka is singing "Storybook" in Scarlet Pimpernel, the camera focuses on Touko for a bit and, although her face is half in shadows, you can see this look in her eyes. She’s looking at Asuka with such compassion and she’s got this little smile on her face. I just love it. ♥

28. What do you think of the Osa-Fuu Mizu-Tonami combination?
I prefer Tonami, but I do like Mizu as well. I haven't seen any full shows of them together, but they seem to be a good match. *shrug* It will be weird to see Mizu with Mika. That's all I can say. =P

29. What do you think is the coolest stage name?
You're all going to think I'm biased but, I always though Haruno Sumire was a really pretty name and completely perfect for Takarazuka. I also really like Mochizuki Rise based on the kanji. Of course, I have a thing for the moon (I'm known to be found staring up at it XD), so 望月 attracted me. ^_^;;

30. Is there an OG whom you wish you could have seen when she was a current seito?
Zunko, as well as any of the past Hanagumi tops. I also would have loved to see Mihoko. ♥ And of course I wish I could have seen Osa and Rise whil they were still ‘siennes.

31. Is there someone you think: "They didn't retire last time, but this time..."? Who is it?
Asako. Frankly, I'm surprised she's still around... *headcomp*

32. Some comments on Sena Jun.
Um.. I like her when she was younger. She doesn't seem as...happy (?) as she was before; almost as if she's tired of Zuka. I miss the days she sang "Kuroi Washi" with a huge smile on her face... she never seems to have that anymore. I do love her when she does comedy, but her angst is getting a bit tiring. >.< I just… meh *shrug* I wouldn’t go out of my way to see one of her shows, and I’ve barely got any interest in her Elisabeth

33. Which current musumeyaku from the 85th class would you highly recommend?
ICHIKA~!! ♥♥♥♥

34. Are you more partial to Tonami, or Asuka?
I have to say Tonami, simply because I liked her long before I realised I liked the current Asuka. XD

35. Is there someone whose makeup from a certain performance you want? Who?
Er, as in, for everyday wear? I mean, Osa's Toddy-kun had awesome makeup but, I can't say I'd want to wear it for anything other than dressing up. XD

36. Some comments on Mirai Yuuki.
Very talented singer... I don’t really know her enough to comment further though.

37. Some comments on Ozora Yuuhi.
She's obviously very talented, even if she wasn't necessarily my style of performer (although the Yuu/Yuuhi combi was growing on me after seeing Arabia and the Cordoba Now on Stage). However - and this is going to get me shot - I never really saw her as being top star material. I don't know just... something never really meshed in my mind. It will be interesting to see how she does, to say the least.

38. Please tell us about a seito you think should be used more, but gets no recognition.
Ichika! Er, except she does get recognition, doesn’t she? ^^; In that case, Juria!! I just really, really like her and would love to see her promoted more.

39. If I said "someone treasured by the company", who would you associate that with?
Heh, despite my feeling towards her, Tom is obviously treasured very much. =P
Also, Kasugano Yachiyo. I mean, how can someone who's been a part of the company for 80 years not be considered a treasure?

40. Who do you consider the best etoile?
Mihoko. And Arisu was really, really good. *g*

41. "She can't sing", "she can't dance", "she can't act", which do you consider the biggest handicap?
Definitely "can't act." A bad actress can really turn a play sour, so I think that's the most important. I can deal with someone who perhaps can’t sing or dance as well.

42. Some comments on Aran Kei.
Amazing. Everything about her: her personality, her singing, her acting, the list goes on. I'm very upset that I only realised this a few months before she retired.

43. What do you think is the preferred amount of time for a top star to hold that position?
I'll follow everyone else's lead and say three years. Although I'm certainly not opposed to some others getting longer. ^^

44. Please tell us who your favorite musical playwright is, and which of their works you like most. Up to two people is okay.
Erm... *frantically checks TakaWiki* ...I'll say Kimura-sensei, simply because he wrote Kurotokage and Ernest in Love. XD I really have no idea though ¬_¬

45. Please tell us who your favorite revue playwright is, and which of their works you like most. Up to two people is okay.
Fujii Daisuke wrote Cocktail. How about him? *headcomp* And I like him based on the ridiculous title, "Exciter." XD

46. Is there a costume you'd like to try on?
Where do I begin?
- Hands down, Osa's parade costume from the end of Takarazuka Maimu, headress/feathers and all *gigglesnort* Okay... maybe not. Could be fun though. It's so insanely over the top and yet, I love it. XD
- Osa!Death's red velvet outfit from the end of Act 1
- Elisabeth's dress from the end of Act 1 (original, eh? =P)
- The dress that Scarlet wears that is similar to the one from the beginning of the movie
- *g* I really, really want a dress like the one Ginger wears during the Heroine part of the '07 TCA Special (while she's singing MiiMai). You know, the red poofy one with like, a billion petticoats. *laugh*

47. Please tell us your favorite Takarazuka tune. Up to three is okay.
Propose - Kurotokage (I want someone to propose to me like that @_@)
Yume wo Mireba - Enter the Revue (What? It's fun ♥)
Artemis to Orion - Adieu Marseille

48. If I say dancer, who do you think of?
Ooura Mizuki. Oh wait... are these meant to be current actresses? Oh well =P

49. If I say singer, who do you think of?
Shizuki Asato, Ayano Kanami, Aran Kei, Haruno Sumire

50. If I say actress, who do you think of?
Hanafusa Mari....

51. Please tell us what you think is Ueda Shinji's best work.
Erm.. looking at his list of shows... Seasons of Angels. That's the only one that really stands out. *headcomp*

52. [Updated] Although "Rose of Versailles" was just performed in 2006, they scheduled it again with four "Side Stories" over the course of 2008-09. What do you really think of that?
>.< I've only seen one and I'm already tired of the bloody show. Enough, seriously. There's only so much of one show we can take (well.... most of the time anyway). No comment on Hana getting it as a daigekijou show…

53. Please tell us what you think is Shibata Yukihiro's best work.
Well... I liked Kohaku-iro no Ame ni Nurete... And [Osa's] Utakata no Koi...

54. Some comments on Koike's works.
Umm..... -_-;;

55. Which troupe's version of Elisabeth do you like?
Hana and Sora are very, very close together. I almost think I prefer Sora's... I can’t resist Zunko’s voice. *_*

56. Is there some staff from outside of Takarazuka that you'd like to work there? It doesn't matter how feasible it is.
Err…. I really don’t know...

57. Is there an original work (novel, movie, historical person) that you'd like to see turned into a Takarazuka performance? If you have a cast in mind, add that too.
…I’m drawing a blank. There’s nothing that springs to mind immediately.

58. Do you like Ogita's works?
Tuxedo Jazz = ♥♥♥
Orpheus in Spiral = Not so much >.<

59. What do you think of Saitou's works?
Haven't seen any more than some clips of his shows.

60. Well then, what about Kimura's?
Definitely on good terms with me.

60.5 - And what about Masatsuka's?
Melancholic Gigolo = ♥
And Magician no Yuutsu was pretty good too. That's about all I know about him. =P

61. Which character from which performance do you think is the best Takarazuka hero?
62. Well then, what about the best heroine?
Gah, I haven't seen enough to really answer these well but I'm going to be biased and say:
Akechi Kogorou and Kurotokage - Both were really awesome characters. Particularly the latter, a role which Ginger was very lucky to get the chance to play (and did it so well). We need more roles like that. ♥

63. Predict the five top stars in five years. (We don't know who will be in which troupe in five years, so troupe doesn't matter.)
....yeeaahh. I have no idea and I'd probably end up making a fool of myself if I picked any names. XD

64. Do you go to performances with friends or alone?
Er, I don't go to performances. *headcomp* But... I watch them at home alone, because I have no one to watch them with. =P

65. Do you have a lot of friends who go to shows?
Online...

66. What do you think of irimachi and demachi?
Although I've never gotten to experience it myself, I think it is a nice change to Western customs when it comes to this sort of thing. I like the organisation of it all, because it shows the respect that the siennes really do deserve.

And then there's the whole, "I just handed a letter to my favourite 'sienne *faint*" aspect of it. *g*

67. Do you like ochakais?
Never been, but I want to. They seem like so much fun. ♥

68. Feel free to say something about fan club outfits.
Assuming they look good? Very, very cool.
Assuming they look bad? ....still, very very cool. XD
Basically, I like that a single piece of clothing can show that you support a certain sienne and that you're willing to wear questionable articles to prove it.

69. A comment about "Kageki".
I like the portraits at the front, but I'd like if they included younger siennes as well (as in, a certain 86th of mine who never got one. :P). Um yeah, a lot of text that I can barely read and yet, I buy it anyway. XD

70. A comment about "Takarazuka Graph".
Prefer this to Kageki, probably just because it has more photos and, seeing as how my reading ability sucks, that's definitely a plus. *laugh* I often find the articles in this easier to read as well, so it seems better for practicing.

However... some variation in the portraits in the first few pages would be nice. You know, something other than playboy poses. >.<

71. Do you use Quatre Reves often?
Well, I'm sure I would if I lived anywhere near one. =P

72. What goods would you like to see at Quatre Reves?
Um.... stage photos of younger stars as well?

73. Have you ever been to Takarazuka-an?
See #71. -_-;

74. Is there a video you saw unintentionally and liked?
Not...really? I mean, everything I watch is intentional. XD But... I was a little apprehensive about Asuka Yubae, but I ended up liking it. *shrug* I don't think that counts though...

75. What do you do with your videos and programs in your room?
Hokay, so. VHS’s, Graph, Kageki, and whatever other books I can fit (not much now) go here:

DVD’s and any books that need to migrate from the above bookcase go here. Plus the few stage photos that I have and don't have an album to put them in. XD:

Plus some posters (you can see a bit of the Me and My Girl one in the second photo) and stage calendars (this and last year’s) on the walls.

76. Please tell us a restaurant around the theaters that you recommend.
...........yeah, I'll do that. =P

77. Have you ever gotten premiere tickets? Feel free to elaborate.
Nope.

78. Feel free to say something about the Takarazuka Home Page.
The flash page, while being very pretty, sucks. It takes so long to load, so I always just go straight to the HTML page.

Probably my most visited site, apart from LJ and my email and I'm constantly checking it (even when I know there's not likely to be anything new ^^;;)

79. Have you seen Sky Stage?
I wish....

80. Do you have the first or second series of personal books? (Please tell us the purchasing circumstances, or why or why not you bought them.)
I've only got Kimu's PB, which I found hidden in the wrong section at Book-Off. Erm, bought it because Kimu is adorable? XD
I'd like the others, but I don't think they're something I would order specifically (wait, that's a lie; I'd probably order Osa's...), only if they were easily accessible and cheap (ie. at Book-Off or sold online...)

81. What's your opinion on the girlish fashion of musumeyaku?
Very pretty but... I'd kind of like to see the break the norm sometimes and wear - *gasp* - pants. I like them to be a bit spunky. *g*

82. Is it a problem if otokoyaku are overly feminine off-stage?
No. It just makes it all the more impressive when she manages to step onstage and become the complete opposite.

83. Confess, if you're talking with a friend about a play without seito you support, are you bored?
Mm... I haven't really had this happen but, I'm interested in all 'siennes and I like hearing about other shows as well.

84. What is the "sexiness of otokoyaku"?
...other than just looking good onstage? XD

Umm, I'd say a lot of it has to do with confidence. When they know the effect that they have over the audience and can play it up a bit.

85. Are you partial to 2 or 8? If you don't understand the question, don't answer it.
Erm… 2ch and… what’s 8? *shrug* I have no idea.

86. Did you participate in that internet battle without thinking?
I don’t like them and I try to stay out. And if I do participate, it’s not "without thinking."

87. Say something about the so-called "delusionistic". If you don't understand the question, don't answer it.
I think there are people like that everywhere, not just in this fandom. It depends how deep into their delusions they are. If they’re at the point where they are hurting other people, well, obviously I’m not fond of them.

88. What do you think of non-zuka fans who associate Takarazuka with a lesbian tiger pit?
Closed-minded, immature, you get the idea.
I’m pretty sure my dad thinks like this (...his first question when he saw it was, "So, are they all-" and that’s when I cut him off. *rolls eyes*)

89. Have you come out as a Takarazuka fan at work or school?
Hm, if I was still at normal school, I’d probably be using Zuka stuff, writing odes to Osa & Rise in the margins of my notebook, and wallpapering my locker. As it is, I don’t hide that I’m a fan, but I do hide the extent to which I am. ^^;

90. If Doshirouto asked you "What's so great about Takarazuka?" how would you reply?
(Who?)
That the actresses are able to challenge the traditional roles assigned to women.
The confidence that the ‘siennes exude both onstage and off.
The culture within it.
The complete over-the-top nature of it.
The gorgeous costumes and sets.

91. Have you ever used the term "crush" in regards to Takarazuka?
I’m a teenager, what do you think? ^^; I can’t really help it, even now.
However, it has become more of deep-seated love, admiration, and respect for these women who are willing to put so much into the Revue.

92. Has your love for Takarazuka ever slanted your perceptions of men in your real life?
I… don’t really have a good perception of men as it is, never mind what effect Takarazuka has had, though I don’t think it really has. I, quite literally, don’t really listen to male singers though (seriously. Jero is the only one whose music I will actively search out), so Zuka is a good alternative. *g*

93. Have you ever had an instant as a fan where you thought: "I've gone past the point of no return?"
Haven’t we all? ^^;

94. What kind of person is a "painful fan"?
Someone who doesn't seem to particularly care about the 'siennes, who attacks or belittles others for being fans of someone, who doesn’t respect the values of Takarazuka, etc etc.

95. What do you think of men being Takarazuka fans?
*shrug* I don’t think there’s anything particularly bad about it.

96. Please tell us your definition of an "old fan".
*laugh* Anyone who’s been around longer than me? XD Okay, maybe not. Um, I don’t know… someone who has been a fan for at least ten years, or has been through a few generations of tops.

97. What do you think is something that Takarazuka fans must not do?
Everything in #94?

98. What would cause you to stop being a Takarazuka fan?
If everything I love about it right now disappeared. Even with everything that Hankyu has put us through recently, there are always things that I can go back to to cheer me up. If that disappears, and there’s nothing left to run back to, that will be the day I stop.

99. If you had a daughter, would you want her to enter Takarazuka?
I certainly wouldn’t oppose it. If she knew that’s what she definitely wanted to do, I would let her.

100. Last question. What is Takarazuka to you? Please answer with something other than "a world of dreams".
Takarazuka is an escape from reality; a way to de-stress; the source of joy, sadness, stress, angst, love, and awe.
