New Year, and a new philosophy to live by

New Years is a time when people redefine their lives...and some stick to it. For me I can be inspired to big things by small happenings, in this case...new years eve plans.

So I'll admit, I had a little trouble finding some real plans for new years, as friends I was hoping to hang out with either left town earlier than originally planned or went to a party where they didn't know anyone but the person who invited them, and felt they couldn't invite someone else. But I kept at it, reaching out to people in my hometown area I hadn't talked to in a while, and on the afternoon of the 31st was talking to one, and she excitedly invited me to the little get-together she was going to. Nothing big, but it was fun, and something real to do. A good way to close out last year and start this one.

Lucky, huh? Well, yes and no. I've really come to believe at this point in the saying that you make your own luck, or when in a more religious mindset "God helps those who help themselves"...you need to look for the opportunities, recognize them, and take them.

2007 was, in retrospect, a year I felt sorry for myself way too often. Yeah, shit happened to me, but oh well, not like I'm the only one. And I'm sure more will happen this year too, but I'm not going to let it phase me. Because overall this is going to be a great year. Because I'm going to MAKE it a great year. I'm going to stop complaining about the things I'm unhappy about (note to some of my friends: it's ok to sigh in relief now), I'm going to figure out how to improve those situations.

I'm going to start back up on my workout plan (yeah, I've been slacking a bit) and take it to the next level, I'm going to start volunteering, I'm going to take up a martial art (still figuring out which one, suggestions are welcome), I'm going to get involved in theater or some other group, I'm going to go out more, I'm going to make sure my next project at work is a good one or if it's not find a company that'll give me a good one.

Like I said...this is going to be a good year because I'm going to MAKE it one.
