RIP Randy Pausch
I sometimes wish I was interested in ETC instead of Robotics. I still think about it from time-to-time. Being introduced to their lab as a freshman and seeing their 3 monitors and all their toys, seeing all the people I know who did go through the ETC have really cool jobs at cool places now, seeing the results of Building Virtual Worlds.... it all seemed so interesting.
Whether or not it was the case, I always had the impression that either the ETC wouldn't have existed or it wouldn't have been as cool as it is had Randy Pausch not been a part of it. I was touched by his story of pancreatic cancer, as my grandfather had suffered from the same fast-acting disease. I was inspired by his Last Lecture, both his lecture and his book, which I had preordered. I am sad for his kids and his wife who he leaves behind.
