African fertility doll for barter/sale

Jun 29, 2007 22:08

I came across this item today that was so compelling that I immediately had to bring it home, but it didn't feel like it was supposed to stay with me. It was more that it was supposed to pass through me to find a home with someone else.

The black pole in the background is our lamp, not part of the statue (in case that looks confusing).

The tag calls it a "Fertility Doll" and reads, "Inspired by the art of the Asante people of Ghana, this Akuaba (fertility doll) shows the distinct beauty of African sculpture. An Akuaba is given to a tribal woman who is wanting to become pregnant. The doll is carried and cared for by the wishful woman while preparing to have the actual child."

It's new with the tag still on it (as you can see in the pictures). Barter preferred, or $13 plus shipping if you'd like to just buy it. Let me know if you're interested, even if you can't afford it or don't have anything to barter, and we'll see what we can work out.

fertility, stuff for sale
