That's what the 'feeling sick on Thursday' thing was all about. Ugh. I lucked out, and ended up NOT having to work out in the field yesterday (the person who replaced me also got good weather, so bonus!). Instead, I worked from home. And even with that, by about 2:30, I was basically unconcious, and not getting anything productive done, on account of the fever and the pain and the general feeling of plague that had come over me.
Part of that might have been rushed on by my own decision to take a lunch break at noon, and head out to the store for food-stuffs and general supplies in prep for Ms. Irene. This activity, apparently, was all the activity my body was willing to allow me, prior to shutting down and dealing with the infection. Still, it was probably more important that I got the stuff for our house, than working on a report that was going to suffer from lower quality ANYWAY on account of my being sick. Or, at least, that's how I'm justifing it. Whatever.
I then slept. In horrible fitful, bursts, for the rest of the night. Fever coming and going and then finally breaking. During the middle of which, I recall popping out of bed no less than three times, CONVINCED I had strep throat, and I needed meds. So, no real surprise that when I finally woke up at 7 am, all it took was one attempted swallow of air to determine that yes, YES I DO have strep throat, and how long do I have to wait to go to the clinic? Fast forward two hours, and I'm in the clinic, and "YES, YOU DO HAVE STREP, and here are your wonderful meds, and YES, YOU CAN HAVE MAGIC MOUTHWASH" and all was right sightly better with the world again.
Magus (who is a plague-bringer without tonsils, so he had to get meds too) and I then prepped the house for the hurricane (meaning we cleared off the porch, walked the dog, and charged our electronics), before promptly going the fuck to sleep. A state we persisted in for several hours.
With the return of conciousness came another dose of meds, and the sudden urge for homemade cookies. Since we are the only people in the house, and we both have the plague, this seemed like a fine idea. WE WERE RIGHT. And seriously? The first solid food that you can swallow down while fighting off strep should ALWAYS be homebaked cookies. FACT.
(Of note, posting the newsletter while on meds is not the brightest idea. I just spent ten minutes correcting errors that I would have SWORN were not in that thing this afternoon when I posted (in my adorable attempt to post it prior to a possible power outage, which we haven't gotten yet. *fingers crossed*). Also, while I am here, WTF is up with the LJ rich text and HTML editors? Is there a reason LJ decided to update them so that they both SUCK?!)
It's now 1:30 in the morning, and Magus and I are pretty much WIDE awake at this point. The storm hasn't been TOO terrible so far on our end (only some minor flooding in the basement), but supposedly, we've only gotten the outer bands of it so far, and the main part is going to be heading our way in the next 3 hours. A full 17 hours after the rain started. Ugh. How much is my dog not liking this? Let me count the ways...
At the very least, the combination of illness and storm has allowed us to watch an interesting combination of shows (LotR: FotR, Archer, Clue, and Star Trek: TNG so far) and a game of scrabble. (It should be noted that anyone who uses a 'BLANK' piece as the letter 'E' during a game should be summarily barred from playing all future games, I don't care if they end up winning by a cool 100 points. That's just how it needs to be.)
Now, if you'll pardon me, I'm going to go take another swig of mouthwash before I lay down and attempt to watch Sucker Punch. If all the reviews are right, sick, drugged up, and mostly asleep is probably the only way I'm going to make it through this thing with my sanity intact.
weather crazy man!,
