FLYERS ARE GOING TO ROUND 2!!!!
*bounces and twirls and spins and does fist pump of joy*
SO, there was a game on tonight (actually there were three games - two of which are over, and one which I am still watching...congrats to
deathisyourart and
goldy_dollar for the Habs making it to Game 7, GOOD LUCK TOMORROW!! - but that is neither here or there at the mo') and this game, THIS GAME was so freakin' intense and my boys played so damn aggressively (and not in the stereotypical 'BROAD STREET BULLIES' asshole way either, but just in the 'WE REALLY WANT THIS AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO LET YOU HAVE IT' way). And it was GOOD.
The final score was 5-2. And we EARNED it. Seriously. We took the lead (and the first goal of the game) at the very end of the first period, after having gotten 16 shots on goal to the Sabres 2. (This one went to Coburn.) We managed to increase this lead through the second period, and went into the third period with a 3-0 lead after basically ATTACKING the Sabres goaltender (27 shots to 14 by the end of the second). One of those goals was made by Briere mere SECONDS into a Power Play (and it was BEAUTIFUL) and the other was a tip off from JVR after a VERY NICE LONG SHOT by Giroux.
And then, AND THEN, in the third period Leino gets an AWESOME goal, and the Sabres? They decide it's time to change out their goalie. They CHANGED OUT THEIR GOALIE, who just HAPPENS to be Ryan Miller. (Ya know, the Ryan Miller that lead the US Olympic team to a silver medal? THAT Ryan Miller.) This event seemed to wake the Sabres up, and they got a couple of goals past Boucher (who was playing DAMN well), but we also got ANOTHER goal (Carcillo is a known douche, but he's OUR douche and he annoys me less than Pronger, and he got us this goal, and I KINDA WANT TO HUG HIM FOR IT) and we won the game
And it was just...SUCH a good game. We played out hearts out, we really did. And I feel more than a little bad for doubting them. Boucher did wonderfully, and it was nice to see Bob dressed and on the bench. Though there are some unconfirmed rumors that Leighton has gone AWOL since Game 6, which I'm hoping turn out to be false. The revolving goalie thing might be damn frustrating to deal with for us (never knowing who is going to be in goal or for how long gets old.) but I genuinely LIKE all of our goalies, and I can only imagine how hard the whole situation must be on them.
The word on the street right now is that IF the Bruins manage to beat the Habs tomorrow (I hope not!), they will be who we meet up with in Round 2. This is ALL THE MORE REASON for me to chant GO HABS GO! Because I remember when we were pitted against the Bruins in Round 2 last year, and MY HEART CAN'T HANDLE THAT KIND OF STRESS AGAIN. Also, I like the Habs a LOT more than the Bruins. Like a lot a lot. HEAPS. So, I want them to beat the Bruins on that principal ALONE. *doesn't think there are any Bruins fans on her flist...bites nails*
Watching the Canucks v. Hawks game right now. Third period of Game 7 is about half over, and the Canucks are up by 1. And on this end, I shall say, GO CANUCKS GO! Because we all know what happened last year when the Hawks made it through the quarter finals... *shudders* YOU GUYS HAD YOUR TURN, IT'S OUR TURN NOW. Please? *whimpers*
And, in closing, I leave you with a picture of Richards, Briere, and Leino being adorable after the win tonight:
