Reading Time-Traveler's Wife, and also National Geographic POD is trying to kill me!!

So, I finally got around to reading "The Time-Travelers Wife" today, and I'm about half-way through. I am enjoying it so far (the time-traveler is a much more fun, and unexpected character then I thought he'd be), but I do have some consistency issues, in regards to the time travel. (Actually, this is something that I ranted about on my fandom filter before! Apparently, its a hot-button for me.) Mainly, that occasionally (meaning I've noted about 2 or three instances so far) the author loses track of what Henry SHOULD know about at certain times. For instance, at one point, Henry is 28 (and so, he has only lived up to 1991), and he is THINKING about cell phones in a totally "this is common" context. (Something similar happens during the same "year" in regards to the "web".) Now, I know he can go to the future, but he talks about that in a more ethereal way, and says he doesn't recall a lot about it; and MOST of the time, he spends traveling in the past. So to me, thinking about objects such as cell phones (which were NOT common in 1991) as if people use them everyday is just not something Henry of that time and age would do. And, because I'm so super nit-picky with regards to time-travel in stories, this sort of thing totally throws me out of the tale (and into LJ to talk about it).

Also, this is completely NOT a complaint, just something of note, but at one point the author mentions greyhounds in the context of needing LOTS of physical activity to be happy, and I couldn't help my guffaw out loud :-D Cause seriously, these guys? They are NOT known as the "0 to 45 mph coach potato" for nothing. As my grey Phoebe can attest:

I'm going to out on a limb here and say that Ms. Niffenegger never lived with one of these puppies ;-P

In other news, NGPOD is STILL trying to kill me with the cute! See?
