TV Blather

Sep 17, 2008 14:27

I can't focus on anything (too much sugar) so I'm gonna blather a bit.

Magus and I attempted to watch "The Big Bang Theory" the other night. We got approximately 15 minutes into the show before we turned it off, wrapped it up, and shipped it back to Netflix.

Maybe it's just that sitcoms are just not our thing. Maybe it was because I was expecting something original, something that poked fun at intelligent people in an intelligent way. Perhaps I was expecting a science geek version of Fraiser. Regardless of these maybes and perhaps', what we got (at least in those 15 minutes) was generic poke-fun-at-the-dorky-geek-nerds-in-the-most-obvious-way-possible-and-oh-yeah-how-about-that-hot-yet-stupid-girl-next-door-with-the-body-builder-ex? It was a serious disappointment, and very irritating to watch (for those whole 15 minutes that I could stomach it). Even if the show DOES get better later on, that opening left such an awful taste in my mouth that I want nothing to do with it again.

There is a chance that FiOS is now available in our area. Which means, we might end up with TV again. At the very least, we shall start paying for our own internet. Possibly. I'm really very cheap. But it would be nice to always know that we'll have internet. Or to occasionally see TV shows that we like without waiting for the download.

And hockey. Can't forget the hockey.

On the flip end, I was less then thrilled with having TV in the house for those 3 months last year, and I'm wary about allowing it in again. Plus, everyone that we know has FINALLY got it in their heads that we don't have TV,. so they've (mostly) stopped laughing at us when we see a commercial over at their house that we think is oh-so-cool and it turns out it is o-so-old. They also (mostly) have stopped asking the following: "Did you see blah-blah-blah last night?" I'm not sure that I want to give that up. Ever. Of course, I DO miss HGTV. *sigh*

*Ponders...*
