Evil Consumerism

As my fellow geeks know, today is the relese date for Spore. I wants it. My laptop, however, being 2 years and 8 months old, will most likely not be able to handle running such a program. It meets most of the requirements, but I MIGHT be a bit short on processor speed. I need to check when I get home.

Of course, this means that I am SERIOUSLY considering a new laptop.

Nevermind that I can't possibly justify spending the money on it. Or that Magus and I issued a 6-month moratorium on all luxury purchases a mere 3 months ago. Or that, ever since I sent my laptop in for work on it's 11-month birthday (and subsequently had the screen, keyboard (twice), and power supply (twice) replaced; and have since replaced the power cord as well), it's been working (mostly) fine.

Magus, for his part, has wanted me to get a new laptop for some time, as he hates his, and would like to take mine from me. His would probably end up finding a home with one of his siblings (the twin got one last time we upgraded, so it would probably end up with his laptop-less sister).

I have no business even considering this. I really, really don't. Yet, here I am. Contemplating away. My first laptop lasted almost exactly 2 years before I ran it into the ground. My current (and second) laptop, lasted less then a year before half of it had to be replaced, but it has been trucking along for the last 1.5 years without much incident.

And Dell, damn their hides, makes it AWFULLY tempting and feasible to buy a new, shiner one. One that can handle Spore. And then later, perhaps Diablo III...

*sigh*
