Weekend happenings
This weekend Magus and I went down to page5grrl's and emmmitt's place. Wherein we got to watch the premiere of BSG season 4 (review still to come), ate "breakfast" at Artfully Chocolate (super-duper condensed dark hot chocolate so rich it's served in an espresso cup is AMAZING), played Super Smash Brothers for the Wii, went to a local dog park with 5's family (Phoebe was not with us, as she was at my Mom's - she would have hated it anyway, the dogs were behaving way too much like dogs), ate dinner at Duffy's, and saw Mike Doughty and his front band "The Panderers" at the 9:30 Club (quite an enjoyable show). That was Saturday :-)
On Sunday, Emmmitt and I got up nice and early and went down to the Mall for the Cherry Blossom 10-miler. It was cool (about 45 degrees) and raining out, but overall the run went fairly well for me. My top goal was just to complete the race in under 2 hours. After the first couple of miles I realized I was maintaining a pretty decent sub-11 min/mile pace, and decided to set my goal for 1hr 50 minutes. I managed to keep the sub-11 min/mile up until mile 8, when my wind just sort of left me. I had been taking brief 30 second walk breaks every couple of miles after the first 5 miles, but ended up needing to take an extra one during the ninth mile, which slowed my pace a bit too much. Regardless, I'm still very happy with my final time (1hr 50min 42sec), considering this was my longest road race to date!
I was wearing braces on BOTH ankles, neither of them were very happy to be out there for the first few miles, nor for the last few miles. The middle was better. Also, I might be getting a shin-splint in my right calf, if the pins and needles I was feeling at around miles 3 and 4 are any indication. I do wish that I hadn't taken that walk break in the final mile, and that I had pushed myself into a sprint at the end. I ended up finishing the course with plenty of energy, so I know that I didn't go hard enough. Bonus though! I now know that I could handle a 13.1!
Magus and 5 were kind enough to bring Emmmitt and I some dry clothes to get changed into, and we then all took a hike up to 14K for breakfast with dindin, shicksal714, T, and Allison. Many eggs where eaten :-)
All in all, not a bad weekend :-D
Oh, and let's not forget: the Flyers made the playoff's!!!! And so did the Capitals! And now they are playing each other in the first round!! *bounces* Of course, I want the Flyers to sweep the Caps in this series, BUT if the Caps win it, then at least I'll have a team I like still in the running (plus, it'll make __tiana__ very happy as well ;-p).
