And I was not impressed. Without going into any detail about the movie or it's plots my basic thought on it is the following: It was pretentious.
It also made a point to whap you over the head with the moral lessons that they were trying to teach. The problem is that it whapped too hard. Subtlety was not something used in this movie. And while I understand that the point seemed to be to, in fact, whap you over the head with its lessons, it really rang flat for me. I mean, if you need a movie to make you reassess your own morals and values, then I think you are just to far gone to be saved my friend. But regardless, too often the film used such blatant plot twists that it just felt utterly false.
I did like some parts and felt that overall the movie was shot well, the acting was decent, and the direction was fine. I just wasn't impressed. And I don't think I'll ever watch it again. Thing is, I think it's getting so much acclaim because people are afraid to say that they didn't enjoy it. *shrugs* Whatever. I'm aware that occasionally my tastes and the tastes of the masses don't coincide. After all, I'm still in denial that A Beautiful Mind was nominated for an Oscar, let alone won best picture. There's two odd hours that of my life that I'd like to have back.
In other news, Magus and I booked both a Florist and a Photographer this weekend! Which I'm sure no one else cares about ;-P
Well, back to work!
