Round Robin Fic: To Wish Upon a Star, First Installment

Mar 12, 2007 10:50

Okay, here is the entirety of everyone's contributions on the group-fic (To Wish Upon a Star) so far! We had been continuing it by adding new parts as a "REPLY", but as issues have come up, we're now asking new parts to be added as a new post! It's important, please title your post as "To Wish Upon a Star, Part X" (filling in X with the number of the part, of course xD ) And please be sure to tag it as "round robin 1"

To Sena, the world seemed masked in yellow. It seemed to be moving too fast. The violets on her balcony had bloomed and died, withering into husks. Her hair was too long: when she showered she felt the wet slither of it against her shoulder. The pale, humble students of the new Takarazuka class had graduated. Her comfy house shoes had gathered holes.

All these things weighed on her at once, as she shuffled out of the glass sliding doors and onto the balcony. She touched the dead flowers. They crackled. Snow was coming down in a steady rhythm, with not the slightest breath of wind to touch them. The flakes landed and melted on Sena’s face. Yes, everything seemed yellow today. The drowned moon above. Her hands that trembled before her eyes. The snowflakes. And everything was just too fast. And everything was just too loud. A strain of music from another dorm lathed through the night. In the darkness beyond the Flower Road a car horn honked, and another. There was the slither and "thud" of shifting snow. Sena leaned heavy upon the railing. The snowflakes in her hair weren’t melting, just sticking and glittering like jewels. But they turned to cold tears on her flushed cheeks and hands and shoulders.

She clenched her hands on the icy rail. "So that’s it..." She murmured. "I’ve had a fever this whole time... All day. That’s why... everything is so yellow..." She pressed her fingertips to her forehead and swayed. The railing pressed hard into her stomach, and the ground tilted towards her.

As Sena's eyes fell and reopened in the process of her swaying, she spotted a figure below in front of dorm. A second of recognition and she found herself muttering, " Su.. " Hand caught onto the side of the railing as vision faltered and failed her entirely. Her body fell, torso first toward the snow-covered ground. It might have been painful, or shocking but Sena did not expect it to be warm and yielding. Consciousness fell away as she collapsed entirely into Sumire's arms.

The woman had been bundled up, black woolen coat buttoned up to her neck with a full scarf bursting out the top. On the way inside the dorm, Sumire had stopped to brush the stubborn snow off of herself with gloveless, shivering hands. Above the noise of music from the dorms, a voice had come into one ear. It was much closer, and the tone of the voice rung familiar. Sena. Head tilted to look through the heavy snow up at the balcony above, just in time to spot the figure of her friend dropping like a weight over the edge. Mouth opened to warn her, but body moved more quickly than that until she slid in heeled boots under the other woman. Arms were outstretched, but her own body padded the fall and they were down together in a flurry of white. Recovering painfully, Sena was turned over in her lap to be examined. She wasn't awake, and looked flushed and too pale at the same time.

"Sena?" Sumire shook her friend's shoulder gently, "Sena?" and patted her face.

When it was obvious that something was very wrong with her friend, Sumire scooped her up into her arms, and rushed in to the dorm.

"Help!" she cried, as she rushed into the lobby, Sena in her arms. "I need some blankets, and anything else you can find that is warm."

"Is that Sena?" one of the people who had gathered around after Sumire's dramatic entrance asked.

"She's sick. I don't know what's wrong." Sumire explained helplessly.

Doors were opening and people rushed into the lobby as the story spread. Towels and blankets were offered to both Sena and Sumire, as someone made the suggestion to call an ambulance.
