it was that "oi vey" kind of funny...

Sep 28, 2006 17:34

Secratary: "Come in at 12noon"

12:00pm

Secratary: "Actually, we don't need you 'till 12:45. Go to teacher's lounge and wait."

[waiting amongst teachers talking about colds, farting, and chinese food, whilst I read Vonnegut's proud, snotty musings]

12:45pm

Teacher: "The students will be here between 1:15 and 1:30"

1:15pm

...

1:30pm

no students.

1:37pm

me: "no students..."

Secratary: "I'll check up on it..."

2:00pm

Students and 2 para-proffesionals arrive.

3:15pm

Students are dismissed. I go home.

Day's wage? $40.00

Kzoo Substitute teaching is so funny. No interview, no orginization, no communication, no expectations, lack of preparation and competence on the part of much of the faculty. So many kids desperately needing someone to relate to or take time with them.

It is such a joy to help a student grow in knowledge or escape feelings of inadequacy. I can't even describe it.

a thought from a few days ago:

insolent- insultingly contemptuous in speech or conduct; overly convinced of one's own superiority and importance

child- A person who has not attained maturity

We often all are insolent children. To each other, but most often towards the source of our creation. Sometimes my insolence towards God jars me enough to just stand there, dumbfounded.
