Challenge 01/JC - stubbleglitter

Okay! So, I decided to do a different POV in the 8th section of smile for the fans, which is very much a JC story.

Justin's the first one to talk Grammy. I mean, he's the first one to talk it aloud, because fuck knows JC's always kinda had that Grammy glimmer in his eye. JC thinks he's pretty underappreciated. Which is funny ... to me, I mean. It's funny to guys like me.

So Justin's nominated for a Grammy without the rest of us, and he says it out loud in front of fuckin' JC and the air goes lumpy. J's breathing heavy next to me, rasping a little. He had too much to drink. He thinks he's charming when he drinks.

Across from us JC goes real still and slides his eyes back and forth without moving the rest of him a fraction. "Y'know what sucks," he says and looks straight at J, "is Justin." We give JC a minute. There's nothing, no grin, no laugh, no throwing a cushion at us. He means it.

I have time to suddenly remember J coming out of the quiet room, wiping and wiping and wiping his mouth with a wet triumphant look in his eyes, and oh you fucking stupid little sluts, you two.

Next to me J jerks away, up, mumbling some kind of cussword at JC before running off but I can deal with that later, because right now it's just me and C and he's staring hungrily and hatefully after Justin. As if we can fucking afford this. As if we're ever gonna get out of this intact, this ... two of them.

"It's Joey who sucks," I say, because it's true and as long as we're telling the truth. JC's jaw goes rigid. I don't think he realizes it. "Or me," I add, "maybe me," and that's the truth too.

Whew! That was strange to write. I feel like I was forcing myself to elaborate on something that was best left in half-obscured fragments. Also, Chris is such an unreliable narrator, and I had to hold myself back from putting in too much one way or another to explain/ameliorate their behaviour.
