challenge #5

Oh my, yes.

Obviously I totally lost track of this comm, but summer is a good time to start thinking about writing again and hey, maybe some of you lovely ladies feel the same way!

So here is a new challenge, if you feel up to it. The first part's easy:

1. Choose your character. Your favourite one, the one you like writing about the most.

2. Write a scene about him/her doing something horrible and repulsive or dealing with an object that's horrible and repulsive ... describe the action/object in such a way that it sounds beautiful.

Example:
- pulling apart a fly piece by piece, with descriptions of the gossamer wings and delicate legs
- eating the contents of an ashtray, w/descrip of the plummy smell of filters and the hiss of ash when you press a wet fingertip to it

I would say don't choose something that makes the character seem unbalanced (like a serial killer describing how he peels the skin from his victims) because that automatically explains away why this gross thing could be considered beautiful!

I don't know how many people are going to take up this challenge, but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway. I'd love to see what you guys come up with!

And here's the rules, since it's been a while:

- any length. You don't have to write a full-on story, or even a ficlet. Go with whatever inspiration takes you. You can make a new post, don't put it in comments to this post.

- post what the process was like for you. Even if inspiration never answers your plaintive calls, write what it was that blocked you.

- remember, no critique unless the person EXPRESSLY asks for it. If you want to know what you could have done better, specify that you'd like critique; if you're a feedbacker don't offer crit unless explicitly stated.

And that's it. Have fun, my ducklings!
