[Review/Discussion Post] Shinigami-kun Ep 06

Jun 05, 2014 00:28

Sorry, I'm late again! I'm working on a fanfiction lately and have to meet a deadline, what's why xD but I gave myself a writing pause right now to enjoy the next episode of Shinigami-kun! Here we go!

After Shinigami-kun and Crowgirl found out that their lifespans as shinigamis is connected, Shinigami-boss gives Crowgirl the advice to get involved with the humans directly at their next job, to prevent any mistakes from happen. Otherwise it could end in a bad way not only for Shinigami-kun but also for her.

Uh... Shinigami-boss is behaving gross again... >.> Poor Crowgirl!!! Since he was normal last time I hoped this was only a one-time-thing or that he was just teasing her to make her work harder. Now I'm hoping again that he's just teasing her to make her work harder >.< Aw look how Shinigami-kun reacts, he doesn't like Shinigami-boss getting gross towards Crowgirl either!

Again he's sorry for his mistakes when Crowgirl scolds him but then there's no time for being sorry any longer since something bad happened. Crowgirl's spies tell her, that there is an unexpected suicide candidate who would mess up the schedule of the humans meant to die according to the Shinigami notebook. Do you remember that at the beginning of the series they already mentioned that a shinigami is obliged to prevent unscheduled deaths - also suicides - from happening? It seems that we finally get an example for this in this episode...

Back on earth we can see a woman trying to get through to someone over her cell phone but she can only get the answering machine. On a rooftop, she already takes of her shoes and goes to the edge of the high building she's on top of. Does she want to jump down from there? It looks, like it's really the person who wants to commit suicide, since Shinigami-kun shows up next to her - complaining that an unscheduled death would mess up the soul number balance in heaven when he introduces himself to her.

When Shinigami-kun asks the woman for her reason to want to commit suicide (problems with her job? Bad health? Love problems?) she somehow gets angry at him, denying everything. She even claims, that she didn't intend to kill herself but just wanted to enjoy the fresh air up here. More than that, she calls Shinigami-kun's outfit an uncool cosplay. (Ah, nooo Shinigami-kun, you look so cute! >.< It's totally fine for me! Love your socks!)

Leaving the scene, the woman leaves Shinigami-kun behind troubling when Crowgirl shows up behind him to scold him again. He defends himself. Well, it didn't sound like that woman had any reason to kill herself so why?

We find out that the woman is called Takayama Rina and is responsible as the editor-in-chief for a fashion magazine or something similar. As she told Shinigami-kun before, she really seems to be popular with other people. A photographer asks her to go out with him for some drinks later on, but she rejects him. A meeting is scheduled in which Rina gets interviewed by another magazine. When the interviewer talks to her, he shares his opinion that he believes that her magazine is so popular because it reflects women's pride and shows that they don't have to rely on a man or society. Rina herself claims that she only wants to search for the way of living of women like herself.

Suddenly, Shinigami-kun and Crowgirl show up at the scene, witnessing her doing her work when Shinigami-kun states, that this woman - just like she said herself - does not have a reason to kill herself. Asking Crowgirl, if she didn't make a mistake, he provokes her to scold him again. Shinigami-kun, you should know her better already! XD

Despite our two shinigami's being busy, also other deaths are scheduled as we can see when black crow feathers fall down from the sky. Surely among those there is also someone, Shinigami-kun has to take care of. Indeed, it's the one, Shinigami-boss recites the name of right now: Wada Akira - sudden death by a subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Meanwhile, Crowgirl tells Shinigami-kun to leave this problem to her and to go to the person who's scheduled to die instead. When he leaves, she warns him, not to have too much compassion. Of course not! (Uhm yeah...)

Scene change. In a park, a man gets touched by death. It might be Wada Akira, the one who's going to die and Shinigami-kun has to take care of. He seems to have sudden pain in his head as he spends some time together with a little girl (I guess it's his daughter) Miyuu. Miyuu seems to try to remember some lines from a notebook as if she was up to perform an act. The man tells her to give her best.

A car stops in front of the park and a woman gets out of it, calling for Akira. It seems like he has been waiting for her.

Back at Rina's work, we see the woman standing in a washing room with her cell phone. She tries to call something. The caller's ID picture looks the same like Akira who we got introduced to in the last scene. She only gets through to the answering machine though... She then takes out a small glass filled with pills and puts all of them into her hand, to take them - to commit suicide? Suddenly, Crowgirl appears behind her and asks her what she's doing. Rina gets shocked from the surprising appearance and throws away the pills. She pretends that she only wanted to take some pills to be able to sleep but Crowgirl can't be deceived as easily as Shinigami-kun.

Holding Rina's phone at her, showing a picture of Rina and a man (Akira), Crowgirl asks her, if this is the reason why she wants to die. Of course, Rina denies that a man would be a reason for her to kill herself. Rina mistakes Crowgirl as a wanna-be-model and tells her not to upset her but Crowgirl introduces herself as Shinigami-kun's supervisor. Rina doesn't take that shinigami stuff serious of course. What's that stupid kind of sales promotion or whatever?

Back in the park, Sayaka, the woman who went to meet Akira and Miyuu, seems troubled because Miyuu is in low spirit. When she asks her what happened, Miyuu tells her the exact lines that she practiced before and tells her the story that she got bullied at school “because I don't have a mom”. Akira seems satisfied with Miyuu's performance, which seems really to melt Sayaka's heart. Pretending that Miyuu would trouble Sayaka with such words, Akira sends the little girl away to play while he continues talking with the woman.

To complete his “flirt”, he presents her a souvenier from a business trip and a flower bouquet and then, Sayaka takes out an envelop to hand it to him. It's money for Akira's next project, she says. He asks her if this would be really OK if he takes it and she happily agrees before she begs Akira and Miyuu farewell and leaves the scene.

After the woman left the scene, he quickly takes a look at the money. Well, it was OK, he thinks. I guess, now at the latest we know what he's up to - deceiving women for money. What an a******... When he turns around, suddenly Shinigami-kun appears in front of him and picking up what Akira had just said, he asks him what exactly his job is. Akira calls it “making women happy” (mhm...) and oh no, Shinigami-kun even believes him and even asks him for advice, since he himself has trouble with a female co-worker (guess who he's referring to xD) and he wants to get more friendly with her. Akira gives him the tip to fill the gab between women and men with presenting her flowers... but more important, who's that stranger? Time to search for your business cards, Shinigami-kun!

“Congratulations! You will suffer a sudden death in two days so I've come for you!” (Taking aside that it's not that sudden any longer if you learn about it two days before it happens but yeah...). Are you kidding me? No, Shinigami-kun is serious of course!

Shinigami-kun assumes, that Akira is troubled about his little daughter's future and as curious as he is, he takes the little girls phone to check if there's a picture of her mother in it maybe - just to learn that there are various pictures with different women in the pics, one of them is Rina who he met before... That's confusing and who is the little girl's mother now?! Well, Shinigami-kun, I guess none of them...

Back to Rina. It seems obvious, that she's in trouble because of Akira, looking at the pictures on her phone while she is drinking some alcohol and eating dinner at a small stand. Suddenly, she gets visited by Crowgirl again who comments that Rina looks like drinking because she got dumped. When Rina replies to her, the operator of the food stand looks at her wondering, because he can't see who that woman is talking to right now. Crowgirl gets herself a drink and tells Rina, she would to everything for her if she just promised her not to commit suicide. Suddenly, Rina's cell phone rings, Akira is calling!

She picks up the call and gets the man who seemed not to have contacted her for a month to go meet her at her company the next day. Pretending that it was he who was pushy, she shows off in front of Crowgirl, pays the bill for the meal and leaves the scene, obviously in higher spirits than before.

Bringing Miyuu along, Akira shows up at Rina's firm the next day to meet her. He asks Miyuu, if she liked Rina and the little girl agrees. Again, Akira gives Miyuu some lines to memorize that she should tell Rina after that. When Rina shows up, she presents Miyuu a picture book the girl seemed to have wanted. Miyuu embraces Rina and states her lines, telling her that she would be happy, if Rina became her mother. Happy to hear this, Rina wonders and then, Akira proposes to her, telling her that's thanks to her, that his business went so well and asking her for another little bit of help. Accepting, Rina receives the ring and happily guids Akira and Miyuu outside.

Shinigami-kun shows up again, pretty satisfied with the situation. When Crowgirl asks why, and wants to confirm if this is the man who's going to die according to the schedule in the Shinigami notebook, he tells her that he chose Rina out of a lot of candidates to become Miyuu's mother. He explains the situation to her and Crowgirl can't believe that Shinigami-kun really didn't notice, that this man is not only deceiving other women but that he's even using his own child for marriage fraud! Really Shinigami-kun, you're too good for this world...

When Rina returns happy to her office, Crowgirl is already there and warns her that she's getting deceived. Rina declares that she's not the type getting deceived, she's a woman who doesn't need to rely on men or society but is this really true? Crowgirl seemed to have looked through everything tough. Upset, Rina calles for a security man to get rid of Crowgirl but when he takes a look into the office, he can't see any “strange woman” around... Crowgirl has disappeared.

Rina meets Akira and Miyuu outside on a date at the beach. Akira pulls out a marriage registration form and wants Rina to sign it. But before Rina does this, she asks him, if there aren't other women. Of course not, he tells her and this is enough to talk her into signing the paper. Akira promises her that he will submit the registration at the public office the next day but when she takes Miyuu by the hand to get closer to the sea, he destroys the marriage registration immediately and throws it away. Suddenly, he feels the pain in the back of his head again...

After that, Rina goes to the bank to get more money for Akira's business. When she returns to him who is waiting outside, suddenly two detectives show up, asking him if he's Wada Akira and to accompany them to the police office. It seems like several women reported him to have commited marriage fraud. Rina doesn't want to believe that and asks him for the truth but before he answers him, he gets arrested.

At the police station, Akira gets questioned if he was deceiving the women for money to be able to pay back a loan that the factory he inherited from his father took but he pretends to not know about that. Well, the police is still searching for proves of his marriage frauds...

… and puts him into jail for the time being, where Akira almost freaks out when Shinigami-kun suddenly appears in his cell! (OK, I would have reacted the same way I guess xD)

When Akira asks him how he could suddenly appear like this, Shinigami-kun proudly shows him his ability to go through walls. OMG, he's so cute, showing off his skills and being so proud of it! I love it! XD

Well, congratulations Shinigami-kun, now that you showed your skills, Akira finally believes that you are real. Yes, this means he didn't believe you until yet and yes, this means also that he now will definitely start to really worry about his daughter, if it's reality that he's going to die... Shinigami-kun feels sorry for Akira, that he has only 24 hours left until his death and has to be locked into a cell at the police station. How should he take care of his undone stuff like this?

Trying to persuade Shinigami-kun to help him find a way outside, Akira tells him that he wants to spend the time he has left with his daughter. Of course he's hitting on Shinigami-kun's humanity like this and I guess, it will work, even if Shinigami-kun tells him that he was told not to have too much compassion with humans. He even goes that far to confront Akira with the deceiving of women he did and with the thrown away marriage form that he let get signed by Rina. Don't pretend, you're not guilty, Akira! Nevertheless, he tries to convince Shinigami-kun that he really wanted to marry Rina and that he through away that form by mistake.

He begs Shinigami-kun to give the form to Rina to file it at the public office for him the next day but Shinigami-kun doesn't approve of this and asks Akira, if he gave up on deceiving her now because he wanted to force her to take care of his daughter but Akira argues that this was what Rina wished for and what would make Miyuu happy. When Shinigami-kun tells him that Rina even thought about killing herself because he didn't contact her for so long, there is a slight hint of guilt and regret showing up in his face.

Rina in the meantime sits at the food stand from the other evening again, drinking some alcohol and telling some stories. Her mother got abandoned by her father and had to raise her on her own, that's why she became a woman trying not to rely on me. Crowgirl wonders, why did she get tricked by Akira then? (Btw did you notice the name of the alcohol brand? It says “Rina”)

Rina continues talking and tells Crowgirl the story how she met Akira when she was covering an article about young factory workers. Back then, Akira was working with all his mind and was proud of it. Back then she also met Miyuu who he was raising on his own ofter her mother's death. That was, when she fell in love wis him, the time they spent at three becoming the most treasurable for her. Telling Crowgirl, that Akira was serious about her because he proposed to her, even if he might have deceived other woman, she still believes in him.

At this time, Shinigami-kun shows up and tells her, that Akira had thrown away the marriage form. He also tells Rina, that Akira will die tomorrow and that he had begged Shinigami-kun to submit let Rina sumbit the marriage form now that he knows about his dead and needs a mother for his daughter.

Crowgirl advices her to forget Akira and Rina tries to get rid of everything that reminds her on him, the pictures in her phone, her ring, the marriage registration form. She promises Shinigami-kun and Crowgirl again that she wouldn't die because of such a man and the two seem assured. Dragging them along, Rina forces both to stay with her to drink. Oh no, drinking more might be bad, Shinigami-kun assumes but Crowgirl doesn't mind and takes the glasses, ordering her substitute to join in. They toast for a new future and Shinigami-kun is impressed how strong the two women are with drinking... Yeah, if we remember the second episode, we know that Shinigami-kun himself might not be the best drinker...

The next morning Rina presents her next project for the magazine, a feature about strong single women. She prepares for the first interview but has to attend a meeting first. Then suddenly, Miyuu shows up, asking for Rina. The little girl tells her, that her father did't come back home in the morning and apologizes for showing up without permission. Rina takes her by the hand and Rina tells her how much she wishes that Rina would become her mother and to become a strong woman like her.

Hearing this, Rina heads into the office's kitchen and can't hold back her tears. Crowgirl appears and also a police men who found traces to Rina's bank accound in payments made to Akira. Crowgirl advices Rina to go with him and tell him everything about those man's crimes, even if she feels sorry for Miyuu.

Back at the police, Akira gets again questioned about the marriage fraud. Shinigami-kun watches the scene. Despite the accusation, Akira begs the detective to set him free so that he can see his daughter again before he dies. Of course the detective thinks, that he's trying to deceive him. Suddenly, Rina shows up, Crowgirl in tow. The detective asks her, if she did the payments to Akira's account and she admits it. The police wants her to tell them the truth about the marriage fraud Akira had planned...

Shinigami-kun tells Akira, that it might be his last chance to apologize to Rina for what he did to her and finally, Akira listens to him and in the end, Rina tells the police that she, as a strong woman, would never get deceived by a man. She tells them, that the money she transferred was to buy that man's dream and that she doesn't regret anything. In other words, she states that he was innocent in deceiving her, even if this was definitely not true.

Wondering about Rina's behavior, Crowgirl asks her why she did this and Rina tells her that she didn't want Akira to die without seeing his little daughter again. Rina asks Crowgirl for the details of the money Akira got by deceiving women and begs her to take over the job to return the money to those women. After all, she had promised to do anything if she gave up on dying, right? And as Miyuu's mother, Rina doesn't want that other women bear a grudge against Miyuu who was involved in all of this. Yes - she will submit the marriage papers in order to become Miyuu's mother. This will become her happiness, saving Miyuu from being alone and herself from wanting to die. This is Rina's way of being a strong woman.

Finally, Rina has another request to Crowgirl. She wants her to postpone Akira's death. Crowgirl tells her, that this was against the rules but Rina stays stubborn. That doesn't mean that it can't be done, right? She requests one year from Crowgirl so that she can one year happily married with Akira and Miyuu as a family...

Crowgirl reports that Riina's suicide could get avoided. But there is still something left to do for Crowgirl. She starts hitting on Shinigami-boss, pretending that she's troubled because of Shinigami-kun, coming back on her boss' offer to take care of her if she goes out with him (and I still hoped this was a joke...).

Ordering Crowgirl to come to his room later on, Shinigami-boss heads off to go cleaning. Crowgirl takes the chance and takes his shinigami notebook, manipulating Akira's death but then, the gets caught by Shinigami-boss... who crosses her changes with her hand again to make them invalid. Crowgirl now tries to beg him to overlook that, especially if their relationship will deepen from now on but Shinigami-boss pushes her back, telling her that there are other lovely supervisors he can try his luck with.

Next showing up is Shinigami-kun, wondering that Crowgirl had compassion for a human. She blames it on his negative influence on her. Shinigami-kun states that he doesn't understand woman while Crowgirl tells him that this would not be the only thing he didn't get. (True...)

Akira in the meantime got released from the police station and finds Rina waiting outside for him.

Shinigami-kun witnesses the scene from above together with Crowgirl, when Akira and Rina go back to the place they played happily together with Miyuu. Akira apologizes to Rina from the bottom of his heart and promises her that if he got reborn and could meet Rina again, he wanted to become a man that could tell her his real dreams and marry her. In the end he encourages her to live her live happily because he truly wishes her happiness.

Rina shows him that their marriage got accepted and that she will give her life to Miyuu to take care of her. (OMG isn't Miyuu just incredibly cute here? T_T) Bursting in tears, Akira apologizes again.

From above, Shinigami-kun and Crowgirl are still watching the scene. Shinigami-kun puts out the pocket watch which shows Akira's time left until death and it seems like it's almost time so both of them jump down to earth.

Rina has dressed in an incredibly beautiful wedding dress and meets Akira and Miyuu, impressed by her vision and dressed up beautifully as well in her office for a memorial shooting to remember the day of their wedding.

Time is ticking and while Shinigami-kun and Crowgirls still only can watch, Akira looks at his beautiful bride. When Miyuu asks why Rina and her father are crying, they declare because it's happiness.

But nothing can be done against fate, not even by the shinigamis.

When Miyuu and Rina visit Akira's grave, Crowgirl is there as well to talk a last time to Rina. She apologizes that she couldn't change fate. She cheers for Rina to take care about Miyuu. Of course Rina will do so, there's no need for Crowgirl to tell her. When Rina turns around, thanking Crowgirl, the shinigami is already gone.

Back in heaven, Crowgirl and Shinigami-kun receive their punishment for Crowgirls attempt to manipulate the scheduled death of an enlisted person. Both of their candles burn down quite a bit and their lifespan shortens again. Shinigami-boss speaks out a warning, telling both that they can't commit another mistake or they will vanish.

Crowgirl apologizes to Shinigami-kun for what she did but Shinigami-kun doesn't mind. He tells her that it was him who shortened their life span so often so far, presenting Crowgirl another chance to scold him. She tells him not to have so much compassion and that he's useless but he thinks that this is totally fine.

He admits, that he got a better opinion of Crowgirl and presents her some flowers, trying to fill the gab between him and her. It seems like Crowgirl accepts the flowers but in the next moment, she attacks him with the same, calling him gross!

While Shinigami-kun complains about the outcome of his affords, Crowgirl drops the flowers and seems troubles as her crows seem in uproar. It seems like something strange has spread in the area the two shinigamis are in charge of!

It seems, like someone is playing with the evil... calling for the devil, bringing Akuma back on screen who offers three granted wishes for a soul.

Shinigami-kun, Crowgirl, prepare for the fight with Akuma!

I really liked this episode! It was interesting, even if it was quite predictable at some points but I liked it. The characters were something different from the last episode where we had the pure grandma and the lost grandson. This time we had a women caught between being strong and weak, we had a man who turned to turned to do evil things but still had some love and human feelings left inside him. And we got to know more of the characters of Shinigami-kun, Crowgirl and Shinigami-boss.

We also had the topic of suicide for the first time. It was already hinted in one of the first episodes - if it wasn't even the first? I'm not sure - that shinigamis are also obliged to prevent unscheduled deaths like unexpected suicides. I was wondering about this already and it's nice that they picked up the topic, even if I still think that it wasn't worked out that good... because Rina for me just didn't seem like the type to commit suicide just because her lover didn't contact her for a month. Really... it didn't really fit somehow. They could have integrated the topic better, maybe in another episode? But well, I shouldn't complain too much. Nevertheless, I think this (and Shinigami-boss' gross behavior towards Crowgirl) what the only thing that I didn't like that much about this episode. Expect from that I think, it was a really nice episode!

I felt really sorry for Rina and especially for Miyuu of course in the end of the episode. It's so sad that they could only share such a short moment of happiness with Akira together but I think it's really great that Rina loved this man so much - despite getting deceived - that she saved Miyuu for him. I don't like how Akira treated her and the other women but Rina and the depth of her love were really impressive. It remembered me that people are able to sacrifice a lot for other people if they are in love. I used to do this as well, even if it wasn't such an extreme situation. Unfortunately in my case it didn't turn out well but I'm happy that Rina in the end got at least the gratefulness of Akira, and even some love, I think. It's great that she took care of Miyuu, I was so sad for the little girl, loosing her father. At least, she's not alone now.

I think the most interesting of this episode was the character development of Crowgirl. Parallel to Rina, she was the second woman strong and weak at the same time. I was really impressed that she didn't only work really hard but even more that she in the end worked against Shinigami-boss, trying to change fate. I think, it was pretty gross as she “gave in” on him but it was clear that she only tricked him. Nevertheless I was impressed, that she actually really tried to fulfill a human's wish. Shinigami-kun's nice side really had some influence on her, right? I really like that development and I guess, now at the latest I like Crowgirl's character a lot!

What let my heart melt as well in this episode was Shinigami-kun's behavior. He was so cute and adorable... even if a bit dumb at some points but isn't that naïve and innocent behavior what we love most about him? At least I do! It was so funny when he asked Akira for an advice to get along better with his female coworker and it was so adorable and he was so awesome when he actually really presented flowers to Crowgirl! I looooved this scene! He was so... manly o.o and if I were Crowgirl, my heart would have burst! Well, I think her aggressive reaction was just hiding, that she actually was really happy about the gesture because... she took the flowers, right? For me this is a hint that he accepted his kindness and I'm sure, she got more fond of him as well.

Now, after watching the preview for the next episode, I'm totally fired up! >.< The next episode looks really interesting and it looks really dangerous for Shinigami-kun's and Crowgirl's life span! I wonder what they will do... it they will survive... even if this dorama might only count 9 episodes (at least that is what I read T_T), there are still 3 to go and until now, the two shinigamis mastered to get their life span shortened every episode I guess? They really have to take care! D=

And now I want to hear your opinions, what did you think about this episode?
