On the phoenix

So, I am on a kind of bird kick. In my backyard and in my shrines. I've spent a lot of time the past several nights combing "bird figurines" on ebay. I've bid on a few inexpensive ones. (on a side note...its kind of crazy how a lot of bird figurines are A. so expensive B. really unattractive as in, I can't believe you would want that bird statue in your home because it looks angry enough to eat your eyeballs out unattractive, and C. how its strange looking at a blue eyed bird. I mean, do birds even have blue eyes? I somehow don't think so...but I am no ornithologist).

But I digress. Then I got to thinking about more mythical birds...namely the pheonix and how awesome of a symbol a phoenix really is....being born from the ashes and what not. So, this morning I began my hunt for the perfect phoenix figure. Strange thing about phoenix figurines...really pricey! And I have to look for a specific kind of phoenix...one that would be easy to make a two part rubber mold out of. Its a tricky business. You have to really think about how to get the original out of the cured rubber without ripping your mold. Usually the two part mold makes that easier...but I find myself still being a bit limited in the kinds of shapes that I can replicate with comfort.

But, I found one today. Problem is that its like 32.00 plus shipping. Not so happy. I have to try to keep my expense down since the rubber and resin are kinda pricey. On the other hand, my rubber mold will not last forever and eventually it will degrade enough for me to need to make a new one. So. Just thinking out loud I guess. Trying to determine if the cost is worth it. Hrm.

May be more searches later.

I have a specific friend in mind for this bird shrine. Its a very transformative symbol and she is beginning a transitional stage in her life. I want it to be a symbol of encouragement, of strength (because she posesses the strength to do what needs to be done), and inspiration to keep going.

I'm really excited about this one, too.

I said that the next shrine I made would be one for me to keep...but I guessnow its the one after the phoenix shrine that will be for me. Heh.
