All my interesting stories today are from work.
I'm answering phones for a girl who's on vacation for a long weekend. So the first phone call of the day, I pick up. It's a man asking for Jane. I say ok, and transfer him to Jane's assistant. Guess who was on the other end of that phone call??
Edward Norton, that's who!! The actor from American History X, Fight Club, The Italian Job, the list goes on. And I wowed him with my "hello" and "sure." But how cool is it that Jane gets social calls from him?
Also today, HR sent out this extremely obnoxious e-mail admonishing interns on their dress code. It was very fussy and pedantic. Not to mention sixist, because it only dealt with women's clothing? Who could have complained, a visting girlfriend? An ad client? So everyone at Jane thought it was hilarious. Flip flops and jeans are like an average work attire for the staffers. Eventually, this e-mail found it's way onto Gawker.com, a site covering the New York media and fashion scene. It'll still be there if anyone wants to read it. www.gawker.com
Also, for anyone who's read The Devil Wears Prada, there's one point where the narrator has to take The Book, basically print outs of what the magazine looks like so far to her boss's apt. Well, I got to take The Book to Jane's place in the Village today. But she was actually really nice, and joked with me about the dress code e-mail. Phew.
Vanessa from work and I went out to Thai tonight, and then hung out. She may be bunking here for a few days after her Brooklyn sublease runs out. And now I have to call Delta to see about getting an earlier flight out in a few weeks. I can NOT make a 25 minute layover.
