Characters: Alycen Montgomery and Chris Taylor
Novel: All I Want
"So why are you smiling?"
"'cause I'm happy darlin'. What other reason would I need to be smiling for?"
"Eight hours after being bitten by a snake, I'd think you would be downright miserable."
Chris just smirked, leaning his head back on his pillow. "Well, no, having a snake bite my bare ass isn't the best of moments in my life, I have to say. Of course, it could have been worse."
"What, it could have been your penis?"
"Now that ain't right. In fact that's just wrong." But he couldn't help laughing. "Bad enough I had to lie to my mother as to why I was bare ass in the woods with you, but if I had been bit there..."
"Your cousin would have never let it go, I know." Alycen finished cutting a piece of turkey and turned with her hand under it to keep the gravy from dripping on the bed. "So instead, I now have to spoon feed you Thanksgiving dinner while everyone else is downstairs watching football."
He tilted his head to look at her. "I thought you hated football."
"I do, but that's not the point." She wiped the gravy off his chin and made to gather some stuffing on the fork next.
"But it could have been worse," he stated again. "It could have been you."
Alycen stopped a moment, turning back to him. "I know."
He reached up with his hand and pushed hair away from her cheek. "I don't know what I would have done if it had been you, darlin'. I can handle the paparazzi, I can handle the meanest bulls in the PBR. But if I saw you get hurt..."
"You'd turn into a babbling baby." Leaning down, Alycen kissed his lips gently. "My hero."
"Mmm, tastes like cranberries," Chris said as she pulled away, licking his lips.
"You like?"
"I like."
Reaching over, she picked up a forkful of cranberry sauce and ate it, then leaned down to kiss him again. This one lasted longer as Chris took his time to trace his tongue over her lips, and then caress her tongue gently. Finally she pulled her head away to breathe, and he smiled as her fingers played in his hair.
"You feeling better now?"
"Perfect," he replied, a hand sliding down her arm slowly. "Who knew that my girl was a regular Florence Nightingale?"
"I guess you learn something new every day."
"You know what would really make this moment perfect?" His hand pulled her hand back down for a quick kiss, and when she pulled away they were only inches apart.
"What's that?" she whispered.
"I could use a sponge bath."
Alycen laughed and sat up, swatting at his chest playfully. "Don't press your luck, cowboy."
"I had to try." He grinned, watching as she got another forkful of food ready. His hand snaked out to touch her thigh, and he squeezed it gently. "I love you, darlin'."
A free hand slid down to take his hand and squeezed back. She didn't need to reply, because he already knew she loved him. So instead she turned, smirking as she held the next bit of food. "Alright, open wide for the choo choo train..."
Chris just laughed and rolled his eyes. For all the ways that his Thanksgiving back home could have gone... this right here was actually a pretty damn good one.
